Chris Simon Fighting Tactic.

I was having a discussion with a friend the other night and he told me he remembered reading that years ago while playing with the Capitals that Chris Simon would deliberately rough up the front of his helmet with a screw driver so that when opponents missed him they would bust their knuckles open even worse on his helmet. Has anybody ever heard of a player doing this?
