FML. And they're playing for their playoff lives. Book another L.

I wish I had more vcash so I could bet it all against the Oilers for that game.

After every loss I see a comment from some player about how they quote-unquote "abandoned the system." Well, I'm of the belief that Krueger's system sucks.

Here's what Spector had to say following the game.

Quote:
Mark Spector Sports ‏@SportsnetSpec 8m
Oilers have lost nine of last 10. Lifeless. Despite MacT's Vote of Confidence, I believe Oilers explore coaching market this summer.
With so many coaches potentially available in the summer MacT would be making his first big mistake as GM if he didn't do his due dilligence here.

The Plan:

2010-Taylor Hall
2011-Ryan Nugent-Hopkins
2012-Nail Yakupov
2013-Seth Jones
2014-Aaron Ekblad
2015-Connor Mcdavid

Rebuild over after 2015.

This has to be close to being one of the worst, if not the worst, periods for any franchise in the history of the NHL. we were 3 points away from joining only 2 other franchises for picking 1st overall 3 times, we've picked in the top 10 for now 6 straight years, currently hold the active streak for years without a playoff appearance.

And these idiots in charge think they Ken Holland and the Detroit Red Wings management (21 year consecutive playoff streak that may come to end this season. 21 straight years).

4 years into a 'scorched earth' rebuild, and yet we still see crappy effort more times than not. Our captain doesn't inspire anything but boredom (remember the whole "How many games have we won without Horcoff?!? See he's critical to this team!! How's that working out?).

Ugh, the state of this franchise is pathetic right now.

Even Hall has checked out for the season, that's how dire it is.

Unbelievably, the Oilers actually have a legit shot at MacKinnon without having to win the lottery. All Nashville has to do is get 1 pt and we all know that the Oilers will hold up their part of the bargain by losing the last 2 in regulation.
Florida takes Drouin/Jones, Colorado takes Jones/Drouin and there is MacKinnon for the Oilers. Unbelievable that they fallen this far this fast, it really is.
Is MacKinnon really that much better than Barkov? I really wouldn't be surprised if MacKinnon got moved to the wing due to his size, while I'm sold on Barkov carving out a career in the NHL as a center, which we need more than a winger.

Barkov doesn't have quite as much skill as MacKinnon does, but he plays a more complete game and he's physically capable of giving and taking punishment. Seriously, when was the last time we had a top six center with Barkov's upside or better? Jason Arnott? I'm still sold on Barkov for now.

To me the problem is simple: We don't have any effective NHL veterans who can contribute on the offensive side of the puck and our defense is completely devoid of NHL calibre defensemen.

Simple, but hard to solve. Good luck MacT.

Stauffer just said if the Oilers win the lottery... it's definitely Jones that they select... no big news there but I'm sure management has Jones FAR above anyone else... as they should.

Barkov>Mackinnon IMO, especially considering we're a team playing in the Pacific division next year.

The bottom 6 needs a complete overhaul. I don't want to see any of those guys back next year.

I would not want Tippet.
I honestly don't know what I'd think of having Tippet coaching us.

I'm pretty sure Hartikainen and Horcoff would be getting way too many minutes.

I'd like to see the faces of those candidates when MacT tells them Bucky has to be one of their assistants.

I'm all for Barkov also but if MacKinnon is available, you almost have to take him at 3 IMO. He's pretty much like another Hall except that he's a better 2 way player.
However, I do agree that Barkov would fit our team better.
It seems like the "team" will put itself in a position so that we'll have this debate for the next 2 months.

He wins because he has a veteran roster of players.

He wouldn't get that in Edmonton, and likely would spend all year with the same problems - players abandoning systems play and checking out whenever they feel like it. Something they would now know is 100% effective in insulating them from having to actually follow the demands of a coach.

The bottom six isn't the major producers of offense. That's the job for the top-6.

4th least ES goals for isn't a bottom 6 issue. That's a top-6 issue.

This is my thinking too.

Nightmare scenario here, we finish 3rd last. MacKinnon and Jones are gone, they pick Drouin. I would cry.

It's funny how it was only a few years ago the west had more of the smaller skilled guys, while the east had the big bruisers.
