Ruutu to undergo off season hip surgery.

Rutherford assesses Canes season, priorities

Quote:
Tuomo Ruutu: Rutherford said the forward soon would undergo more hip surgery. Ruutu had surgery on one hip in December, with the understanding the second surgery on the other hip would come after the season.

"Our understanding is he will be 100 percent healthy for the start of training camp," Rutherford said. "He had the one hip operated on in December but they did not want to do both at the same time. Once Tuomo got back (in the lineup) it took him a few weeks to get going but now he's going. He's playing like Ruutu. He's a top six forward and really good player that we really missed."
Rutuu's Hips must really be made from glass. Was anyone else aware during his first surgery earlier this year that his other hip had to have surgery as well? News to me...

Well, at least this time he's doing it at the right time. If the recovery timeframe is the same, he'll be fine for next season.

Sounds to me like it was a hip replacement - I don't know what else they can do one half of at one time, wait a couple months during which your patient will undergo severe wear and tear, and then come back and do the other. Of course not being a doctor I could be overlooking any number of things here.

They're already dropping like flies for next season.

I don't know about that - JR expects he'll be ready for camp, likewise for Pitkanen.

Every team has a list like this, every season.

Also in that article stating Gleason played a month with a broken foot. For those still wondering why he wears an A, that's why.

Jiri Tlusty also played with a dislocated finger.

If you ever wondered if JR read HFBoards:

Quote:
Offseason priorities: Rutherford again said the Canes would restructure its defensive corps, saying, "Obviously we need to address the defense. We need to be a lot harder to play against. We made it too easy for opponents. We put some defensemen in roles this season and playing minutes they can't handle. We'll take a step back and see who fits and in what situations, then go from there. It will not be easy. We'll need to work hard and we'll need some luck, because finding the right guys and getting them is tough."

Damn. Just got a whole lot more respect for that man.

With Ruutu, meh. He's seemed fine but he's the true evaluator of his health. Not too worried about it.

For real on Timmy. That might also explain why he looked a step slower at times and seemed reluctant to hit if he was feeling pain from the break or was trying to limit further damage to it.

That definitely sheds some light on Gleason's performance.

It was funny how Semin was so obviously playing through multiple injuries and everyone "knew" it, yet nobody ever thought to apply the same thinking to Gleason. Myself included.

A good lesson to learn, that there's often more to it than just what we're seeing on the ice.

In fairness to everyone, two years ago everyone assumed Gleason was playing with an injury and at the end of the year he said he was completely healthy and just sucked, or something to that effect.

No, he won't be fine. He has a history of missing significant time throughout his career. He ain't getting any younger and the injuries will be even more frequent and take longer to heal.

^ Yeah, it's not like he's played pretty well and has actually meshed with Jordan since he's returned or anything.

With the way he's shooting this year, maybe he should dislocate another one next season.

Our very own rookie of the year.

He's playing fine right now, after 4 months of recovery from identical surgery on the other side. Why would this one not be ok after 6 months?

I'm fine with dressing 3 or 4 skaters and 1 goalie.

Ruutu had the first hip operated on before Christmas. And was back playing in April. He's got over 5 months to heal if he has the second hip operated on within the next few weeks.

As far as I saw only Harrison is supposed to be out tomorrow, and Corvo should be back.

That could be fun. It'd amount to an on-ice version of Pong. I could see Flower being down for that. Not sure about Humpy Dawg or Blades of Steel.

It amazes me that some people forget these guys, while phenomenal athletes, are in fact still human and capable of breaking.

And some of them are so fragile they really shouldn't be playing a professional contact sport.

If Ruutu's injury is some sort of hip joint issue, that's not fragility, that's wear and tear. There's little one can do about that.

It was a little disappointing that Ruutu didn't continue to score only useless goals in 2013, isn't it?

Narrative...broken.
