So, I don't watch the NBA but Chicago's star player, Rose, has been cleared to play for a month now and he still hasn't dressed for the team. Apparently he tore his ACL and was out for a year.

I can't imagine the kind of backlash someone would get if an NHL player did it. Has an NHL player ever just... Not come back after an injury?

Dominik Hasek during the 1997 playoffs:

The short version: He pulled himself during the first round of the playoffs with an unspecified injury. His team won anyway, Hasek was cleared for the second round of the playoffs, but refused to play.
