Somebody from the club said to someone on one forum and I read that they only wait to reveal the player. Maybe there are some contract/role disputes.

Those tend to be right most of the time.

Looks as solid pickup. Won Calder Cup, reportedly holds several franchise records with Hershey.

Having watched French in HErshey the last few years, you are getting a coach who is an X's and O's type coach, who is pretty good with young guys. KInda suprised by this, I thought he would land as an NHL Assistant. I think he kinda got a bad rep the last few years in Hershey, but that's because Hershey expects to play/Win the Calder every year. The last few years Washington hasn't given him anythng to work with. French won early in his tenure with a roster that was heavy on guys that are now key players for Washington. The last few years they haven't had the same talent level in Hershey, with Forsberg being traded at the deadline before coming over and Kuznetsov probably never coming over. It's important to note that he wasn't fired, his contract was up and not renewed, which was probably the right decision. He has been there a few years and a new message was probably needed.

It also didn't help this year with the lockout that the Caps insisted on this stupid dual coaching idea where he and Adam Oates would be co-head coaches. YOu have a coach who has been here 3-4 years and won a calder cup, now having to share HC duties with Oates. From a players perspective it was confusing as they had to choose listening to their coach or the guy who they are trying to impress as their potential future NHL coach. It was a mess and finally Washington killed the idea, but it was probably to late. The fact that they even made the playoffs on the last day of the year was a miracle.

AFAIK they were selling after season ended, or by the end of it at their games, can't remember.

@Lefty9420 - thanks for the insight on our new coach !

Thank you.

Also, being a Bears fan I would say you are getting a very good coach. I echo Lefty's post about French, especially how Washington gave him little to work with in the last 2 seasons.

Young and eager to prove himself in second best world league. If he does well here it could be his ticket to NHL one day.

As I mentioned Coach French is a very X's and O's coach. He isn't loose cannon like John Tortarella or Mike Keenan, he isn't that type of a guy. You wont see him at the front of the bench screaming at the refs all day and he tends to be pretty measured in his comments to the media.

Here are a few clips of him from this past season.

Any word on who Hershey is looking to name as head coach? I lived in Harrisburg from '02-'06 and became a fan. Was there for the Fixter and Boudreau years. Been living in Zagreb since '06 and am a big fan of Medvescak. Liking the Bears connection from Hershey to Zagreb.

Absolutely none. When they announced French wasn't coming back they indicated that Troy Mann, former ECHL HC and mark's assistant in Hershey would be a candidate. He worked mostly with the D and PK I believe. Other than that who knows, just rumors. If the Caps/Oates have a lot of say it could be someone like Steve Konowalchuck who was a long time teamate of Oates in Washington and who is the current coach of Seattle in the WHL. Or someone else Washington is looking to bring into the organization coaching pipeline. I personally want Eric Veilliuex (sp?). He's a former Calder cup champion with Hershey and won a Memorial Cup coaching the the Q and a rising star in the coaching ranks. But there are lots of guys. Hershey is easily the #1 desination for a minor league coach. Guys like Paul Gerrard who is also a former bear and has AHL and NHL experience. Also you could see a guy like Guy Boucher or Glenn Gulizan, former NHL coaches who can't find NHL HC jobs. But I think those two are unlikely. I say waaaaay outside chance would be Larry Courville who is the HC of the Bears ECHL affiliate the Reading Royals and just won the Kelly Cup last week. But if they go in house I say Mann get's it before Courville.

P.S. I am so sorry that you were here during the Fixter years. Between him and Foligno, those two couldn't coach a pee wee house league team. Two worst coaches in Bears history.
