Who's our Masterton nominee? EDIT: Kevin Bieksa

I currently don't see anyone deserving of it.

Luongo for professionalism, I guess. Malhotra is done, he deserves it at least for sentimental reasons.

Ballard

...He sure recovered well from the wounds he sustained from being stapled to the bench

Although he doesn't deserve it - I would say Mason Raymond is as close to a nominee as we can get.

Cam Barker. For continuing to play in the NHL despite every sane person in the world declaring that he is incapable.

I noticed a couple of you voted for Luongo. Interesting, today on 1040 a listener suggested Roberto for unsung hero. The suggestion seemed well recieved.

Just think about how bad this season could have gone had Luongo done what most players in his situation would have; demanding a trade or sitting out until one hasppened... the controversy, the distraction, the inevitably divided dressing room...

Luongo saved us early in the season when Cory was rusty; and Cory saved us down the stretch when the whole team looked rusty/lethargic.

We owe a lot of the success this season to Luongo's proffessionalism.

I'd probably go with Kesler as he had to come back from two off season surgeries and then the injury this year. Not enough for him to have a shot at winning though. He's probably the closest we have.

Except for that time when he cried that his contract "sucks" while earning millions of dollars a year.

If Matt Cooke can get nominated for the Masterton, it gives guys like Claude Lemieux hope (if he decides to come out of retirement).

I agree. Professional throughout the whole situation, kept a sense of humour about it and could have been so much worse. Obviously a frustrating time for him, but I don't remember him ever publicly complaining once.

I think we're all a little jealous these guys get paid millions to play a game.

Anyways, for the most part at least, he has shown grace even when he's had every opportunity to complain and ask for a trade. Guy just wants some starts because he's competitive, has played well in the starts he's had, and his been the most entertaining aspect of this years dull season.

It annoys me that the Masterton has been reduced to "Who is playing after the most grisly injury?" There's a lot more to dedication, perseverance and sportsmanship than that.

Honestly, you could make a case for the Sedins on those criteria.

Except coming back and playing after a injury that's serious shows those 3 things in spades. More so then anything.

Especially in a profession that relies on physical ability.
