The whole NFL off-season is the most overhyped thing in the history of sports. FA, the combine the draft all of it. They have an entire day dedicated to the schedule release and most sports channels dedicate a 2 hour show to it. It's ridiculous.

I am waiting for the full week NFL draft with 1 round per day. Why not they have already somehow turned it into a 3 day event for only 7 rounds.

From Rotoworld....

Why are we even working him out? Not like we owe him any favors to give him a workout, to spread word to other teams. I don't get it.

Hard to believe he is still only 27...

Quote:
Free agent JaMarcus Russell weighed 267 pounds at his Bears workout Friday.
For points of reference, Russell measured 6-foot-5 1/2, 265 at the 2007 NFL Scouting Combine. He was supposedly 311 pounds when his comeback began. While ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports Russell will not be signed by the Bears, the weigh-in at least confirms Russell is serious about his comeback attempt. Russell's trainer, Jeff Garcia, says JaMarcus is willing to take his talents to Canada if no NFL teams want to sign the 27-year-old.

My guess? Him, along with the other QBs are being worked out so we can get updated evaluations of them in our records, so just in case during the season, something happens to both Cutler and McCown, and we need an emergency QB, we have some current information on available players and can make an emergency acquisition.

I think there's a small chance we sign one as a "camp arm" but more than likely I think it's just due diligence in case of real injury issues down the road.

I'd rather play with one man short than put him at QB. Only interest I have in him is on the offensive line.

I don't think it's worth worrying about. It's just Emery being his usual thorough self.

Gotcha... Just wanted to make sure there wasn't something I had missed or something, but the reasons you stated all make sense. Just seems like wasted work, IMO.

Bears trade Gabe Carimi to TB for a sixth round pick. I don't think Long can turn out much worse than the last two OL picks.

Not a single 1st rounder of the Angelo era remains with the team.

Bears should trade 1st rounders every year for established talent

Been failures at draft table for almost every 1st round of last 20 years

better than cutting him + we don't have a Cap Hit left because of cutting him.

Watch him becoming a good OL player for them

I think what is surprising is how fast he is unloaded for virtually nothing. It's only been 2 years since he was drafted. Oh well...hopefully Long pans out better.

He played decent enough to stay. I think he is gone because of his off the field stuff.

Rodriguez had been in Miami to train with some of his teammates, but after his arrest, faces a $1,500 bail.[5] Later in the year, on May 31, Rodriguez was arrested for driving under the influence, speeding and improper lane switching on Interstate 90 in Illinois.[6]

its not like there weren't red flags when he was drafted. Didn't he have like 2 dui's in college or something like that?

Disagree. I really liked the pick at the time. He wasn't used AT ALL by Tice, but this year Trestman had him doing some interesting things in OTAs and he looked to be a nice versatile piece of our offense. He just couldn't stay out of trouble off the field.

Emery took a gamble on a guy with some iffy off-field issues and lost, it's that simple. He took another gamble and won big (Marshall). I think it's all the better that Emery cut bait on him now, instead of holding onto a problem-child for longer than he should have. People lose their shirt in gambling when they hold onto a losing hand longer than they should. Emery made the right play folding.

But his potential on the field this year will be missed. We don't have anyone else who can do what he was supposed to do this year with that level of flexibility.

No, he never had a DUI until this one in Chicago a couple of weeks ago. There was a drunken/disorderly in college where he had an altercation with a woman I believe at a dorm room. That was the only real red flag, and that was a couple years prior. But couple that with the March drunken disorderly / dropped charges and now the DUI, that's not good. Supposedly, he was spotted at a Chicago night club 48 hours after his DUI arrest too (I don't remember where I read that today) so I have a feeling he spent all his chances.
