This team is crashing down to earth after playing over their heads for a month, and their big concern is that the CHB wrote an article questioning whether an aging player coming of a tendon injury, who missed the last 5 months of playing time and had no spring training yet came out on raking, is on the juice? Rail on jackass. Rail on.
and yet shaughnessy's article was one of the main things wrong with sports journalism today.

"i'm just asking questions..." is newsprint trolling. shaughnessy should be slammed by as many people as possible. rosenthal, neyer, and a host of other writers nailed him.

Sure, and I think most fans in this area know and expect that behavior from the CHB. He's a complete hack who does nothing but troll players. Nobody takes him seriously because of it. Nobody pays attention to anything he says. Well, that is until an owner of a team writes a silly rebuttal to a manufactured story. Then people sit up and and actually give the original article some credence.

People from outside the area may because they don't realize the source/may have not been aware of it until Werner rebutted it. Besides, since when do team owners use MLB resources to counter local stories they don't like? That's really the issue for me. At what point does this group just say F it and let morons like the CHB write his nonsense rather than worry people will believe it? So dumb. You can't control everything and you don't need to try and spin it. Most people can see it for what it is.

Yeah, I don't get that either. What good can come from responding to a troll about possible steroid use? Seems to me like the best thing to do is let the CHB come off as the toolbag he is and let it die, but the spin-masters couldn't leave it be.

Tough to get legit #3-#4 hitters. In our case, we definitely need a #3. As much as I love Pedey, he's not yout true meat-of-the-order-bat. But we knew that beforehand. And there's basically nobody we could have gotten in the off-season (without overpaying or giving up a good amount of the farm).
Hamilton? I am glad he's not here. Too fragile.

We knew 2013 would be tough, we are doing much better than expected. I know the first few weeks have elevated our expectations, but they are not a 1st place team. With some luck, the 2nd WC spot is somewhat realistic. It's a genuine goal and I hope they don't overreact and trade some key prospects for the short success.
Our farm is heading into the right direction, we got some great guys down there.

@bruinswincup: You're correct. I had so much faith in Rizzo back then. But when we went after A-Gon, giving up another top 1B prospect just made too much sense. We thought Adrian was our guy for 7-9 years.
Theo is secretly (more or less) doing a tremendous job in Chicago. He's got the cash, indeed, yet he's spending it very wisely. The Cubs are gonna be a juggernaut in the near future. Probably less than 3 years.

What's your take bob...will they continue to swirl down the toilet or is this just a standard slump in a season and they'll still threaten 90 wins?

To me, this is water finding it's level. They weren't as good as they played in the first month. They may not be as bad as they've played this month either, but they're a lot closer to this than they are to the team in April.

Third, act like you've been there before and show a little class. It's the first freaking month of the season. It's been enjoyable, but talk like this belongs in September, not the first week of May.

He also went on to make some odd comments about Francona's book. Basically saying how winning now is the best revenge against him?
2-9 since this may 3rd interview. Ownership not as media accessible lately.

It's why you never thump your own chest after such a small sample size. Not only did the Yankees pass them for first, but Baltimore is ahead of them too. So stupid. And oh yeah, do look now, but Tampa is climbing fast too. If they keep it up, maybe all those ESPN analysts who so greatly offended Werner by picking the Sox to finish no better than 4th place can come on WEEI and crow about it...

am i bob?

they were never as good as their record indicated. i think people here got a little too excited before the season. they'll probably finish ahead of the yankees, and maybe the blue jays at this rate, but they're not a first place team. i never claimed that they were. i picked tampa to not only win the division but go to the world series.

I also picked TB. I was really more curious as to whether you felt this latest stretch was closer to what they are or a "slump".

I think we all agree they aren't a team that will run off 20-8 runs again. They were abnormally hot for a while. The question is...when they level off will they play above .500 baseball from there on out, or won't they?

Seems early. He hurt something?

sure looked like it.

rays beat writers just said that the trainer wasn't really focused on anything in particular. maddon was laughing on the bench so it might just be precautionary.
