DON'T Fire Bowman

Would the Hawks really have been better off with this pud instead of Handzus?

Yeah, I don't think so

I've never been in favour of firing Bowman. Even if the team got the point where things were going off the track i'd probably say get rid of Q first and give Bowman another chance (and to be clear, i'm talking an "out there" hypothetical...I'm not creating scenarios where Q would be fired).

People are too hard on Stan...it's obvious he doesn't operate w/ much freedom b/c of McD and drafting has been good under Stan.

Well yeah, Derek Roy's a better player than Handzus. But if the Hawks go reasonably far in the playoffs, nobody should complain about Bowman's relative inactivity. Definitely not firing him, that'd be a ridiculous overreaction with little reasoning behind it.

Derek Roy is still a better player and the Canucks failure in the playoffs had nothing to do with him. The Hawks where the better team, and if you reverse the players I bet the results don't change. It's like people singling our Bolland for last years playoffs when the whole team failed, the Canucks failed not just Roy.

Handzus has worked out nicely but let's not forget he was considered terrible too. What people do for another team doesn't mean anything. You go strictly on talent. Roy has much more but Handzus has had enough for us so far, happy with his play.

why should we fire the GM that added good guys to our good roster? Nobody will get fired. Not Q and not Bowman.

The point is many on this board screamed when the Canucks acquired Roy that the Hawks were falling behind and didnt have the balls to go for it. And look what Roy did for the Canucks. 0 playoff wins and now their system is even more depleted.

Handzus was washed up 2 years ago according to pretty much everybody. For all we know, Roy is 2 PPG as a Hawk. Let's just be happy we are winning.

The point is, once again, "loading up" at the deadline doesn't always work.

Yeah, that's the point. We needed a 2C, got the best guy we could and it has worked out so far. Just because Roy bombed in Vancouver doesn't mean that would have happened here, actually, it's indicitive of nothing, just as Handzus' play with the Sharks couldn't have told us how he would do here.

Rarely ever works, just look at the Pens....loaded up and are still the same team they were last year at this time.

What are the stats of the guys that got dealt at the deadline? They've been some of the best players in the whole league.

Who cares? They can't keep the puck out of there net, loading up with those guys doesn't help that, clearly.

Loading up with Vokoun might, but yeah, we've been saying all year their D sucked. That's not news to anyone.

Murray and Morrow haven't helped much of anything except perception. Their problems were in their own end, the pk, and the neutral zone, and their problems are still in their own end, the pk, and the neutral zone.

Agreed but they've got like 30 goals from these guys, they've been their best players.

Who cares if you score 30 if you let in 31. I'd rather have a team that scores 5 and allows none, no?

It will be interesting to see how many of the free agent signings Pittsburgh keeps after this year. Next 2 years, they have 18 UFAs.

Q is great coach and won cup. He should never be fired.

Handzus

I'm pretty sure Handzus wasn't acquired to play 2nd line. He was acquired to win face offs, provide depth and experience up the middle and provide a little size all of which he does. It didn't cost much to get Handzus. Roy would have cost a lot more and quite frankly the Hawks don't need another small body in the lineup. This team is size challenged enough----they haven't seen anything yet so far in the playoffs when it comes to physicality. Bowman isn't going anywhere nor should he. They had a pheomenal regular season, the Oduya trade and Roszival UFA pick ups look like pure genius and he manages the finances incredibly well.

Yeah, people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones and 95% of us reside in glass city. We're all happy things are working out and the team is winning. As for the importance of trades, well, Handzus has been big for us as have the other acquisitions other teams made. Roy is probably the only dud but that Canuck team is a train wreck and all played like trash save for maybe Luongo.

Like I said before, Derek Roy wasn't worth giving up a top-six center prospect and an early-round pick. He isn't a difference-maker.

Not really, aside from Iginla who is feeding off of Malkin/Crosby and on the PP.

Iginla - 1G 6A -2
Jokinen - 0G 2A +1
Morrow - 0G 1A -3
Murray - 1G 0A +/-0

Other TD acquisitions:

Derek Roy - 0G 1A -1
Jaromir Jagr - 0G 1A -1
Michael Handzus - 0G 2A +3

Aside from Iginla, Handzus looks like the best acquisition.

Blasphemy! 2nd line centers are all that matter in hockey! Give up Pirri and Beach and our 1st for him! Blowman! Blowman! Blowman!
