KRF's post-lottery mock draft 2013

My first ever mock draft of the 14 lottery teams 2013.

1. SETH JONES - D - PORTLAND (WHL)
There's no question about 1st overall, even less with Colorado holding that pick. Local guy who fills one of their biggest needs.

2. NATHAN MACKINNON - C - HALIFAX (QMJHL)
This pick should be about as safe as the 1st was. Florida needs a #1 centre to play on a line with Huberdeau in the future.

3. JONATHAN DROUIN - LW - HALIFAX (QMJHL)
Drouin, MacKinnon's linemate in Halifax, will be the perfect partner for Stamkos on Tampa's first line. If they can add another great winger, this could become one of the best (if not the best) line of the whole league.

4. ALEKSANDER BARKOV - C - TAPPARA (SM-LIIGA)
Barkov is exactly what the Preds are looking for. Very good defensively and even better on offence. Could build a Scandinavian line with Filip Forsberg and ??? in the future.

5. DARNELL NURSE - D - SAULT STE. MARIE (OHL)
There are still a few centres left who'd deserve going 5th but the Hurricanes have Eric and Jordan Staal plus Jeff Skinner who also played centre in the last few games of the season.
However, Nurse is a very big forward who can impact the game on both sides of the ice. A very good pick for the Hurricanes.

6. SEAN MONAHAN - C - OTTAWA (OHL)
The Flames need pretty much everything. They do have a few centre rookies and prospects but neither one of them has the potential to be the #1.

7. ELIAS LINDHOLM - C - BRYNÄS (ELITSERIEN)
The Oilers desperately need a #2 centre behind RNH. Although there were three centres picked already, Lindholm is still a player who will fill that need very well.

8. RASMUS RISTOLAINEN - D - TPS TURKU (SM-LIIGA)
Last year the Sabres picked two centres in Grigorenko and Girgensons. This year they need a d-man and Ristolainen will be a perfect solution.

9. VALERY NICHUSHKIN - W - CHELIYABINSK (KHL)
New Jersey needs another goalscorer. A russian line around Kovalchuk and Nichushkin would be a great thing for the devils - at least on the PP. The Devils will be lucky if Nichushkin drops that far, though.

10. NIKITA ZADOROV - D - LONDON (OHL)
A very big defenceman who knows how to use his body and also what to do on offence. A perfect pick for the Stars.

11. RYAN PULOCK - D - BRANDON (WHL)
The Flyers's offence is really strong and they already have a few offensive prospects like Schenn and Couturier. Pulock can help the defence with his good overall game, especially on offence.

12. HUNTER SHINKARUK - LW - MEDICINE HAT (WHL)
The Coyotes already have many young defensemen. Shinkaruk will help the offence to produce goals.

13. JOSH MORRISSEY - D - PRINCE ALBERT (WHL)
The jets could need anything but I think they'll go for defence. I really like Morrissey and I loved him at the WJC. Knows how to handle the puck, how to put it into the net and how to play defence. Perfect pick for the Jets.

14. ALEXANDER WENNBERG - F - DJUGARDENS (ELITSERIEN)
The first of a few first round picks for Columbus. Wennberg can play every forward position and will be a very good pick for the Blue Jackets.

Don't see any way we take Nurse at #5.

Dallas takes Pulock over Zadorov, they don't need anymore LHD.
