Gretzky impressed by maple leafs' efforts against bruins

This huge coming from the great one, Wayne said about the Maple Leafs "They're legit".

I don't understand why this would be "huge." Wayne Gretzky was an awesome player, defining an era, but that doesn't mean he is an awesome analyst/coach/whatever else. His being impressed by the Maple Leafs is no more meaningful than any other former hockey player being impressed by the Maple Leafs.

"The guy I think has hockey sense to only Crosby and [Brad] Richards in New York is Kyle Turris. His hockey awareness and hockey sense is close to those two guys, and I consider them to have the best hockey sense in the game today. He's going to fit into that category soon." Jan 2013.

Oh come on. The team hasn't made the playoffs in 9 years. Can you blame the fans for being excited?

In all honesty, it's nice of Wayne to say that and probably means something to the boys coming from the greatest player ever and I'm just happy they're competing.

He was also impressed with the Leafs effort when they missed the playoffs a billion years in a row.

Every time gretzky is impressed by anything it's supposed to be big news... Did you guys here? He enjoyed his coffee at Starbucks, should probably get that barista on Iron Chef

Has Gretzky ever said anything negative, critical or controversial after his retirement? He's just a politically correct nice guy.

Thoses headlines always make me laugh.

What do you think of this years Leaf? Well they are pretty good
Headline: X guy thinks the Leaf are pretty good.

What do you think of Habs great history? Well that's pretty good
Headline: X guy thinks the Habs have a pretty good history.

Do you think Boston is one of the best place to live? Well it's pretty good.
Headline: X guy think Boston is an amazing city.

Common guys, it's like a rock band saying every city in their world tour is the best city. What do you want them to say others than all the good thing?

Once again I blame the media.

This shouldn't be news since Gretzky has never said anything bad about anyone ever, and he is a massive leafs fan so he may be a bit biased

Well Gretzky has had a ton of coaching and managerial success, so I'm sure he can spot talent

This is very true, headline should be different if someone answered a question vs if he bring it up, and if he is in public when saying it or in private.

Public declaration have not the same value than coach voting anonymously on player.

And answering question have no value at all, you can end up with 25 player's in the top 10 going around and asking does X a top 10 player to coachs in the nhl.

Doesn't take the greatest ever to see that Toronto is legit. But it certainly doesn't hurt. I'm sure the youngins in the Leaf's room were giddy when they heard.

Came to post exactly this. But I don't think it takes away from his comments.

Kerry Fraser didn't see Gretzky make the compliment, so it didn't happen.

You ever read Gretzky criticize any team or player? I wonder if it's wrong in Cfor ex player to criticize some team or players or why he's just praising everybody.

Ha. Well, he was the one who drafted him. Probably just a little over-excited to see him doing well in Ottawa.
