Lets see... As of today...

Yip- getting off IR on Monday, will be back on the roster
Gill- lower body/groin, out maybe 2 more weeks tops, most likely less.
Hornqvist- shoulder injury, out 2-3 weeks
Wilson- shoulder injury, out 2-3 weeks

In our zone, he was passed the puck on the goal line about three feet to the right of the goal. He spun away from pressure and was pushed from the side/back into the boards from a few feet away and landed awkwardly on his right arm / shoulder near the kick plate in the boards. He was in a whole lot of pain and holding his arm gingerly; could barely skate off the ice and needed a lot of help getting up.

Wasn't really a dirty hit really despite the description sounding like it was. It was just a really awkward fall. My face when I saw his face contorted in pain was somewhere between the following two smilies:

Unless a miracle has happened in the last 24 hours, yes he will definitely miss games. Hopefully only a few, but it's looking closer to 2-3 weeks.

It wasn't necessarily a dirty hit, but it was a dangerous hit. Contact in the back, a couple of feet from the boards is a recipe for injury as we've seen the past two games.

Watching how he left the ice my initial guess was a dislocated shoulder, best case.

The B's and the Chuks will get their chances now. The question is, if they succeed who does that leave out?

Bourque-Legwand-Erat
Smith-Fisher-Kostitsyn
Boychuk/Butler-Spaling-Halischuk
Clune-Gaustad-Yip
Butler/Boychuk

The main premise is to get two guys with talent who aren't quite performing up to snuff (Smith and Kostitsyn) together and letting their skills complement each other, with Fisher in the middle as the hard-nosed garbage goal guy. You put Bourque, a guy who has established potential for goals, with probably your two best healthy forwards and hope that clicks. From there, Spaling slides back in as the third line center of a strong forechecking third line with Halischuk and either Butler or Boychuk (probably Butler, since he's stronger on his skates), and Clune-Gaustad-Yip is Barry Trotz's favorite kind of line -the big, beefy energy line that goes out and throws the other team around a bit.

The one problem I see with this is I think Trotz has decided to keep Smith at center.

Overall, looking at this makes me feel sad.

Gaustad got injured again last game. This is becoming a disturbing trend.

Twitterings say Chris Mueller has been called up. Finally, a forward call up. Likely replacing Gaustad at center so we don't have to break up Smith/Spaling (just my guess)

Now if they would just sit Yip and play Boychuk

I can see why it would be interesting to get Watson up for a while, but I don't think we're in a position to experiment. As a coach you really want to be able to know what a guys skillset is and what you can expect out of him. Not sure Trotz and co know that with Watson yet.

They know with Butler, Boychuk and Bartley though?

yeah, they've had 3 camps with Watson, so I'm guessing they know a little about him.

Watson was in a big time scoring slump until finally potting a goal tonight. I think it's best for him to stay in Milwaukee right now...

And Mueller has played 19 games with us so far and has yet to register a goal. He's an AHL player, period. He's had his chances, lets move on.

Watson has paid his dues, he deserves a shot.

Paid his dues? He's played 59 games in the AHL. 30 points this year. Not exactly setting the world on fire. I certainly would like to see what he can do but I don't see anything that says he NEEDS to be here right now. Mueller has a little experience and he has more points (36) then Watson.
I understand the desire to see Watson but I also see why you pick Mueller over Watson.

Didn't say NEEDs, said deserves and I stand by that. Mueller didn't do anything with any chance he's been given.

I'd actually prefer Latta just to add toughness with Guastad out but we need a center...
