To be honest, really not psyched about EJ at all anymore. Like zero after this season. So, If we could get a quality goal scorer for him, I'd do it. Then, we build around Jones, Barrie, Elliot, Siemens.

Nothing wrong about that, that's why scouting is so awesome. Everyone has different views and he didn't go full retard and become the Head Scout of the Oilers calling Landeskog a 3rd line grinder!

we can't afford to trade anyone of EJ,Barrie or Elliot from this D. they are all needed.
now Wilson, maybe Hejda if you want to risk it.

If Jones became "just an EJ" that would be fantastic. The two of them would give us a strong first pairing, Hejda/Siemens - Barrie/Elliott will be a strong second pairing and putting together a third pairing with O'Brien, Wilson and one of Elliott/Barrie.

Our First, Second and Third round picks have me very excited, as they could all turn out to be impact players in 5 years.

We need to somehow find a way to get another 2nd rounder and a 3rd rounder.

If you do that you have this year's defence with an 18 year old in it instead of Johnson

Pass

Yeah? And we will know in about 10 years if he was right. And everyone had him 1-3. It's not like he was dead wrong even if he turned out to be wrong.

Edit: That wasn't even true btw. He had him at 6th in april anywy.

Edit2: Here is his final ranking. Adam Larsson at 8th.

So the Avs can put Jones in the same situation they put EJ?

That didn't take long for the "Trade EJ" talk to start.

We're trying to add more good defensemen, not get rid of them, right?

Adding Jones to the mix means one of O'Brien or Zanon, if not both, have to be traded or bought out. Just not enough room.

O'Money for a scoring winger at the deadline to give us that final push for the playoffs.

Totally shocked to see so many Avs fans that are behind picking Jones.

Nathan MacKinnon is a total game changer and future face of the franchise, even with Landeskog and Duchene there. Like some have said, you have a pretty steady defense group in Colorado, a chance to have your number 1 and 2 centers as MacKinnon and Duchene for the next decade would be to much to pass up for me.

Adding the instant offense that Nate can bring to your forward group out weights what Jones brings on the defensive end, in my opinion. And yes, even though I am a bias Halifax fan, I've done extensive scouting of Jones over the last 16 months and absolutely love his game.

Either way, getting a franchise player.

Congrats!

I really hope Barrie or Elliot starts practicing playing left Side d positioning.

Barrie - Johnson
Elliot - Jones
Siemens - Heja

this is my projection for 3 years time (hejda is a place holder because i really think he'll stay here for a while).

Since were discussing the idea of trading EJ, here's one of the first thoughts that came to my mind after we won the lottery.

Trade EJ to WPG for Trouba + WPG 1st.

Not sure WPG would do that. But the thought of reuniting Trouba and Jones together after the WJC's would be pretty exciting.

Trouba is a right handed defenseman too. Why not just put Jones with EJ since Jones played the left side on that pairing?

Accepting Jones will be an Av and would rather be converted as opposed to what one of those ****** bags that cries about getting another player when having the top pick

Do people feel 5 years from now he'll be the best player in the draft? Would sting if Mac or Drouin became a Stamkos or Patrick Kane level player while Jones was Erik Johnson 2.0.

Are we getting a superstar? ... Where would he got the past few drafts?
I can't speak for anyone else but I have followed him for 2 years and said this almost a year ago and I still stand by that statement:

I've seen both Jones and MacKinnon play and if I had the first pick, it would be Jones hands down...not really close. Seth Jones will be a franchise d-man. I've said it before, Seth Jones is the best prospect that I've seen since Stamkos.

On the other hand, you're right, MacKinnon does compare to another player picked in '05...Phil Kessel.

No, that would be a stupid amount of pressure on an 18 year old. Build WITH EJ. I'm confident he can bounce back. The likelihood is that our next coach will use him to his strengths and he'll regain his confidence. (unless it's Granato again or something stupid like that) Maybe we'll sign Scuderi as a UFA or someone like that to pair up with EJ and alleviate some of the pressure on Jones. (if we DO end up drafting him, I'd be very surprised if we didn't at this point, especially that we don't have to give up any assets to trade up to get the pick!!!!!)

Except we already have Stastny and O'Reilly at Centre. Saying we have a pretty steady defense group proves you've never watched an Avs game in your life

They'd probably want Stastny before Johnson, just cuz their blueline is pretty full with Postma, Buff, Bogosian, Enstrom.

Stas and Trouba could be good pieces for a deal framework.

Stastny + 2013 2nd for

Trouba + 2013 1st?

If Sherman gets canned, what are the odds that EJ will be out of here though? It was his failure, his baby. It may be PL pulling the strings, but make no mistake, it will be Sherman and maybe EJ that get the boot.

Regardless of whether or not EJ has lived up to the hype, a #3 defenseman (which EJ is, at his worst) at 3.75M for the next 3 years is a steal. You aren't going to find someone else on a better deal.
