Shanahan when with the Rangers was just skating and collided with Knuble, should he and Knuble not have foreseen that? Crosby got leveled in a similar way, it was just a collision, again, you can't always 'keep your head up', the game works too fast, no one can keep their full range of sight up and aware of every player on the ice. In some instances we've seen guys collide with their own teammates and get concussed.

Some things you will not be able to stop, but this is one instance where the interference calls have to change to fit the safer style of play.
The only time Mike Keane hit someone in his brief career as a Ranger.

I'm on the side of ledger where I despise headshots similar to the hits Neil put on Drury and Stevens on Lindros and Kariya. Although clean, the purpose of those hits were to knockout the player. These are the kinds of hits that need to be taken out of the NHL.

With that said, I don't see the Gryba hit in the same light as the ones I just mentioned. I don't think it was a malicious hit where he was looking to take out Eller. I think it was a bang/bang play where he thought the best play at that moment was to hit Eller. Unfortunately the result of the hit was an injury.

at least they got Todd Harvey which turned into Dvorak for those 2 over the hill bums.. its a shame Harvey was injury prone.. he could have been a solid 2ed liner

I don't think it was malicious, but its dangerous.

Focus has to be put back on the puck, not the hit.

Bad news for Detroit. DeKeyser out for the rest of the playoffs.

He's been impressive in his time there. Sucks for them.

After the hit last night and the ensuing trash talk after the game, Ottawa vs Montreal is a must-watch tonight.

It is dangerous and I took another look from the ESPN site and it did look worse (camera angle??). But I think that type of hit is difficult to get rid of because if Gryba hits Eller 3 or 4 inches to the left or right, his main contact is Eller's shoulder. That small difference is predicated on how much Gryba and Eller are turning, one to place a hit, one to start skating with the puck. Unfortunately this ended up with bad luck in my eyes.

It's a shame what happened and hopefully we don't see anymore hits like this in the rest of the playoffs.

Said it last night, it was clean. There is more blame on Diaz for dishing out a hospital pass than on Gryba who put his shoulder in Eller's chest. Eller smacked his face on the ice after the hit. Clean hit with a disastrous outcome.

I hope Eller makes a full recovery, I like the way he plays and he was just getting his game together.

@TSNBobMcKenzie: Two game suspension for OTT's Eric Gryba. Clean hits get suspensions now, apparently .

Once again, this league proves that it's clueless.

Diaz was more at fault than Gryba was. Stupidest pass I've ever seen.

Yeah, just saw it. This league gets more and more ridiculous. I suppose we should suspend the ice in Montreal for a hit to the head on Eller?

I know. It's a travesty.

You always hate to see a guy go down like that, but if you take away those hits, there is no more open ice hitting in hockey. Joke of a suspension.

I really hope the Habs get mugged around. The whining and offensive comments from Prust and this suspension has moved them to my top 3 most hated teams list. I hated them before too.
