2013 World Championship

Not sure who's going to be watching, but a bunch of our guys still have some playoff hockey ahead

Love to see the US team stacked with Lightning players - 2 alternate captains and a starting goalie.

So, following:

USA: Carle-A, Thompson-A, Bishop
Canada: Stamkos
Slovakia: Janus

Did I miss anyone?

NBC Sports is carrying all the US games live, if I'm not mistaken.

Not sure about the other games, though I'd bet they'll carry the medal round too if they're showing the US games.

Nope. Ratislav Stana was in net for Slovakia in their 6-2 win over France: http://www.iihf.com/de/competition/3...ash=f8b13ac13a

Austria is leading 2-0 against USA. Bishop is not looking good.

Sounds like kind of a bumpy start, though I didn't get to watch the game - were they pretty soft goals? (The fact that they came against Austria notwithstanding)

The whole team looked bad on all three goals against. The first and the third goal were direct results of bad turnovers. The second goal was all on Bishop, though (huge rebound). But he had a couple of solid saves too. All in all it wasn't his best game but he wasn't terrible either.

Stammer with a goal today for Canada. Also played on the wing, interesting.

Stamkos was flying out there on the wing. He had a great game, second best player on the ice tonight behind Duchene.

Hmm. So if Florida surprises us and leaves us with MacKinnon...

Amazing play-by-play in those USA-Austria highlights.

"What a strike!"

Those announcers are HORRIBLE. Kind of fun in an awful way.

BTW... been thinking Stamkos would look good on the wing for awhile now. His skillset fits the wing better, but the way our roster looks he kind of has to be #1C.

His trouble at the dot has always bothered me as well, although I don't know how amenable a player like him is to switching from center in the pros. I'm fairly sure he's well under .500 FO% for his career.

He was much better this year though. It's less his face-offs for me, though. I think it would be better for him in the D zone and I think his shoot-first mentality is better suited as a wing. It's not a deal breaker as long as you have a winger like Marty to kind of off set the puck control aspect, but just in a general sense I think he's more suited for the wing.

His FO% over his career:

2008-09: 45.4% (557 FOs taken)
2009-10: 47.9% (1004)
2010-11: 46.5% (927)
2011-12: 45.5% (1227)
2012-13: 49.6% (819)

He's been better this season.

This is actually an interesting point. St. Louis-MacKinnon-Stamkos line...couldn't hurt.

Stammer with an assist, at least.

The Swiss seem to slowly but surely be creeping toward relevance with each tournament.
