Dan Cleary Playoff Warrior?

I noticed over the years that Cleary is one of those players who almost turns into a completely different version of himself in the playoffs. Over his career he has made many critical and clutch plays for wings playoff runs and is certainly someone who knows how to navigate the playoff atmosphere.

Has he aged to far to reach that extra gear? His regular season performance left a lot to be desiered but this playoff does he turn into a monster or is he too far past his prime. I am just wondering for all us regular season Cleary haters does he shut us all up this May or just fuel our fire?

My hope is Cleary has a monster playoffs, but I'm tempering my expectations. His style of play seems to have caught up with him.

That would be huge, but I saw very few signs from him during the regular season that he'd all the sudden break out in the playoffs. He can't seem to keep up with skilled players on scoring lines anymore. I still hope he's gone in the offseason to open up more opportunities for the young guys.

Maybe he can be this year's Dallas Drake. Woefully useless during the regular season and then a ball of energy in the playoffs. But... I doubt it.

I will say this, he was brutal last year during the regular season and one of our best players during the playoffs, so I guess anything is possible. I am hoping that his play really takes off, but I can't exactly say that I am expecting it at this point.

He's clearly playing injured, so my confidence that he will kick it up a notch is not very strong.

At this point, I'm not sure it's accurate to say he's playing injured. He's just broken, permanently broken.

That's a good way of looking at it.

Yes. Cleary is injured. That's why he played all 48 games this season - he's so integral that he couldn't be replaced. Had to play through those injuries.

IF he steps up his game during the playoffs, it'll be due to adrenaline and not much else.

He's done. Guy hasn't had a "monster" playoff since 08-09.

And some painkillers.

He was pretty bad last season too, but I was impressed by his playoff performance.

We'll know soon enough...

I hope the Wings win the whole thing, I also hope Cleary continues looking like our worst forward and is completely useless out there. Cannot risk him getting an extension off a strong playoff run, Dan Cleary is done as anything more than a 4th liner in this league unless he wants to start taking PEDs.

Yup, I hope he's ****ing terrible just like he has been this entire season, and that he gets replaced by Bert.

is this 2009?

he's had 8 points in his last 28 playoff games, and 0 points last year.

let's not kid ourselves.

If he turns into BEAST mode this post season, he will get a MONSTROUS new contract.

According to Pierre McGuire and Mike Babcock? Sure. According to reality? No, just a liability.

He's definitely had some problems over the last couple seasons, I just don't understand why he hasn't gone in for major repairs.

It's not like he's doing us any favors playing injured.

This is confusing to me. You hope he's terrible so Bert plays (and is presumably more productive). Wouldn't it make more sense to hope that he's very productive (i.e. as productive/more productive than Bert) that way we have maximum production?

Cleary sure CAN play better than he has been this season, and he is not that old, ought to have something left in the tank, so let's hope that he can turn it around. He probably need some lucky bounces to get his confidence back.

When he is on his game, like he was 3-6 years ago, he is a realgud energizer.

Not if you don't want his ass back next year on a ridiculous extension.

Exactly. Wish him the best, but I want him off our team. If he has a strong playoff performance, he'll probably get resigned. If he stinks it up, hopefully he'll get replaced quickly and gets the hell out of Detroit.
