Duncan Siemens to NYR

Recent first round pick, big D.
Pls assess + and - of player.

What is worth generically?
What would Rangers have to pay?

Thanks for feedback in advance.

He's not for sale. Would take an overpayment to get him.

Colorado's defense lacks guys with size who can hit so why trade the one guy in their prospect pool who fits that bill

I'm guessing that the OP figures the imminent entry of Jones might bump Siemens down a bit in the organizational roster. (EDIT: I'm not saying it does--but I'm guessing that is his logic).

I'm still not clear where he fits in for the Rangers though. They've got a very good cast of young NHL defenseman and McIlrath in the prospect pool.

Siemens is one of the only LHD we have. And he's the only hard hitting, mean streak Defensive prospect we have.

Adding Jones does nothing to Siemens value for us. It might knock one of Barrie or Elliott out of a roster spot down the road, but for now it wont do anything.

Siemens will be largely relied on to be our 2nd pairing LHD along with one of Barrie or Elliott in a couple years.

Jones - EJ
Siemens - Barrie/Elliott

It won't. Duncan is here to stay.

Don't see why Avs would trade him.

He'll be playing in the Memorial Cup in another week or two - for the Saskatoon Blades.

Maybe get a chance to catch a few games if you can, I doubt most of the posters here have watched him play.

If we draft Jones well have 4 young RHD while Siemens is our only prospective top 4 LHD. I don't think there's a trade to be with him involved unless its in a package that brings back an established young LHD.

Would the addition of Jones make Barrie, Elliot or Johnson available then? Elliot in particular I suppose.

Why the **** would we want Duncan Siemans when we have Staal, Moore, McDonagh and Del Zotto?

Johnson is a non starter or else McDonagh would have to be coming back, that's how highly Avs fans regard Johnson. Elliott likely will not be moved because Siemens was his defense partner in the WHL so the Avs likely want them to play together in the AHL to start next season and then come up together into the NHL.

Your best bet is Barrie, especially if Jones gets drafted, but it would probably take a lot to get him too because he is a very good young defenseman, to me anyways he looks like Brian Rafalski 2.0

Not exactly...

IMO, if we move Johnson it would be because between Jones and Siemens/Barrie/Elliott management would feel we are strong enough on Defense and would move EJ for a forward.

I don't think we'll see any of our D guys moved unless its for a forward and is a deal we simply cant refuse.

From the Rangers, I would think something involving Kreider/Miller and Barrie/Elliott would be the starters.

But the Avs wont do it until they are confident one of them are expendable.

Avs won't trade him.

There blueline is starting to shape up nicely with Johnson, Jones (likely), Siemens, Elliott, Barrie, Wilson, Hejda, etc etc

Thanks for all feedback so far, and further posts.

I did not expect him to be available, let alone cheap.
All players are assets, w/differing prices.

He will be more expensive next year after what should be a good rookie season raises his stock a la Dougie Hamilton

So it was worthwhile to see if there is a match, which is not yet apparent at a price NY will pay.

Still lets leave no stone unturned.

If Johnson is getting moved, its for a MASSIVE overpayment. For a forward or a defenseman, its got to be ridiculous. Tell me which looks better to you

Jones-Johnson Wilson-Jones
Wilson-Barrie or Hejda-Barrie
Hejda-Elliott Zanon-Elliott
Siemens Siemens

Its just a step back if Johnson is moved

Having watched him all the last 2 years I am perplexed. He played like absolute trash this year. Hopefully he rebounds though because he is a real nice kid!

i watched him on a few occasion's this season and it seemed like he was skating better in the latter part of the season, however, that supposed mean streak was non-apparent during in game play i want to see him hit more, after whistle scrums he was verbally engaged but still would have liked to see him more physical, it's actually a little shocking to see him going up to top gear when he skates.

Can't wait for RS to comment on this, it's going to be epic.

Anyway, Duncan was playing bad at the start of the year, but he played great down the stretch whne the Blades were playing on fire. He has a special skill set and he's just what the Avs need.

So people can see how he's played and not assume he's available for scraps.

He wasn't the greatest at the start, but then again the Blades as a whole sucked.
