Leafs to move up from 21st to 13th-15th Cost?

What would be the cost?

Target Bo Horvat

I would think it would be something like the 21st + Finn (Early Second) to move up to the early teens where Horvat will go.

Leafs have the defensive depth to pull the trigger.

Its gonna take more then a B level prospect life Finn to move up into the Top 15 in the draft.

As has been said around here many times. Theres going to be a lot of teams come draft day that will be looking to move up to various spots to grab the player they want, but there wont be many if any teams that are looking to trade down.

It would take a fairly significant piece for a team in the 13-15 range to fall from that spot.

This draft should be interesting. A team may swap 1st round picks for a few spots movement in order to dump salary. That could be expanded to a few more spots if the trade is expanded. We'll see how it all turns out.

Historically, a second round pick. Just last year, Calgary added a second round pick to jump up from 21 to 14. Since this is a comparable move (and perceived player value is probably irrelevant), it would like take just the second round pick. You can also reference 2011, when the Leafs jumped from 30 to 22 for a 2nd round pick.

The Leafs can still draft 17th if things go in their favor. So I wouldn't do anything yet.

No it will not. What did it take just last year for Buffalo to move up from 21? A measly 2nd. When has it ever cost something significant to move up like that. Ridiculous. If anything, Finn is a little too much.

A 2nd round pick sounds about right.

Percy/Blacker/Finn
+
[Rychel]

for

[Domi]

With players added, is it worth it?

As a Leaf fan; I keep the extra player and hope that our current position gives us an NHL player.

Something tells me things won't go in their favor. Maybe one of Detroit, Rangers, San Jose or Ottawa will win the series and if lucky 2 but I don't see all 4 moving on

If the Leafs do move up one or two spots I would seriously think about trading Islanders 15th for 19th/20th + 49th/50th(although say San Jose loses to the Kings(and by proxy will have a higher pick) I offer that deal to them first)

Well Calgary had no 2nd round pick and they felt that the guy they wanted would still be there at 21. A lot of factors were involved there, it's not just, oh okay, we'll take another 2nd round pick so you can move up. Especially in a deep draft like this.

History:

Calgary acquired pick #21 and pick #42
Buffalo acquired pick #14

Toronto acquired pick #22
Anaheim acquired pick #30 and #39

Is it in stone the leafs will pick #21? I'm not sure if #21 and #51 gets you #13-#15, with the history above and this draft looking extra juicy.

That being said the Jets pick #13, and I wouldn't be totally off to moving down. If Chevy feels like it's the right move, and isn't impressed with the quality on the board, he would do exactly that. Then we'd have 4 2nd round picks. Ours, Chicagos, Torontos and #59 compensation pick.

No, The Leafs currently pick 17th, but if any of San Jose, Detroit, Ottawa and The Rangers lose that slot moves down 1 spot(for each team that loses). The lowest they can pick is 21st if all 4 lose. It's probably a good bet they pick 20th(ie one of the 4 teams I mentioned will win the series, but the other 3 lose)

Domi is like Kadri small and highly skilled

Having both and Kessel would mean every other player better be big and tough and skilled..

Prefer Horvat

Leafs played tough all series
I love Kadri but an entire line up of smurfs not a great idea

We need a big C and Horvat is more attainable than Monahan

Gauthier would be the best available "big Center" around the 12-20 range

What exactly do you consider to be a smurf?

I can also point you to Detroit, AKA the holders of the longest playoff streak in the NHL.

Would only be worth it if our scouts thought there was an absolute stud to be had in that range. But if they think its only a slightly better prospect, probably better to just roll the dice on two picks instead of one.

Horvat has been the star of London's playoffs and has played very physical at C exactly what we need..He is Captain material

I was just checking it out, thanks. I don't think 21 and 51 would get you 13th(the most extreme range), but I think mostly it would work, depending on how things pan out. Of course the largest factor is the willingness of the other GM.

Dude, just stop. Domi was clearly the star, leading the team with 32 points (+12 +/-). Horvat? 23 (-1 +/-).

From 17-21, the most a 2nd rounder in the same slot(47th to 51st) will move you up is 4-5 slots
