Habs receive a big 3rd line center to replace DD who can then be traded to a team looking to add offence for some size on the wing. Gorges could be replaced with a top 4 d free agent (Murray, scuderi).
From an PHX standpoint it's a tougher sell as they are deep on D.
Their most untouchable player after OEL for a solid 2nd pair Dman and a 3rd rder? Not happening. The guy is the best shutdown center in the league IMO. Big, physical, and underrated offensively, the guy is their identity. Add to all this he's on a beauty contract on a financially struggling team and he's not going anywhere.
Basically think of what Jordan Staal fetched the Pens when the Canes were the only team in the running, and consider Hanzal is arguably better, making half the money, and PHX could entertain offers from 28 other teams. Galchenyuk would have to be on the table.
I'd much rather be looking at Klesla if MTL were to trade with Pheonix.
DD for Klesla is something I think could work.
Klesla is definitely the most available out of our d-men, but I'm not sold on DD, especially after a pretty abysmal series against Ottawa. Certainly wouldn't want him for center here, though I suppose he *could* work on a line with Hanzal and Vrbata.
I'd probably ask for Leblanc or Kristo if the Habs wanted Klesla.
Love to get Hanzal in Montreal. He would address he big need for this club. If PHX was to trade Hanzel to MTL, it would be for different package.
Something around Plekanec+ for Hanzal+?
Plekanec is a very good two-way center, and I have to give you props for at least proposing a center for center swap, because that's pretty much the only way we would ever consider moving Hanzal - a center would have to be coming back. But be that as it may, not sure if Plekanec's offensive production would compensate for the drop in pure shutdown ability. Plus, Plekanec is kinda older (although he has been more durable than Hanzal throughout his career).
Montreal would have to add to this, and in the end we'd probably still elect to keep Hanzal because he is simply one of our core pieces. But again, props for making a proposal that at least doesn't get thrown into the discard bin outright.
Phoenix does not want defence. Montreal does not want centers. The OP does nothing to consider BOTH teams' needs. Glachenyuk and Eller are our future 1 and 2 centers. Plekanec can become our 3rd center as he ages, he is a great shut down player who can produce points as well.
Montreal does not need a defensive center. If anything, we have a center to trade away.
Not even in your dreams, Galchenyuk outscored Hanzal as a 19 yr old.
Ah, I see. You're acquiring Hanzal purely for his offence
I'm not saying it is a deal the Habs would consider, it is more a reflection of what Hanzal would be made available for. Draft picks and lesser pieces aren't going to convince the Yotes to move their best forward.
