Just say Canadian period. Every team is looking like a trainwreck except Ottawa. Mind you Ottawa is looking better on the basis of playing Montreal.

Again more evidence of how extremely weak the East is. Pens decide to play today and blow the islanders away. Montreal can't even contend in a deciding game. The competition is so poor in the east you have many nights like tonight where the games are either high scoring, one sided, or both. I feel sorry for anybody that watched either of the East games tonight and expected to watch a playoff game.

Why?

The East sucks. Was the Ottawa game competitive?

Was the Pens cakewalk tonight competitive?

These are two games where one of the teams didn't even compete.

Theres such a disparity in the east its silly. The only reason the Islanders are around is the Pens have kept them there in quite a poor showing after an even worse playoff for the Pens last year.

What team in the east actually looks good.

Conversely how many teams in the West are playing well?

Pretty easy answers and a huge difference.

As a coach I could be pleased with 6, 7 of the team performances in the West. Not so many solid playoff performers in the East.

Final thought. Montreal, who were second place in their conference, are getting the tar beat out of them by a club that finished 7th, that was in a slump, and that had trouble holding onto a playoff spot in the pathetic Eastern Conference. Sens are taking the Habs to school pretty much demonstrating how normal the second up East team was. I see pretenders all around in the East.

As a guy that has NHL gamecenter and watches the east on an almost nightly basis. I agree with all of this.

The top 7 in the west would be top 3 in the east imo.

The top western team play near mistake free hockey night after night thus the 2-1, 3-2 scores.

Leafs, caps and Islanders are turnover machines but they score enough to stay in the top 8.

Lets see what the Jets do next year.

Pretty much a speedbump for Chicago. Minny was the one West team that entered the playoffs without any verve.

In retrospect maybe Columbus with thier hard work would have offered up more in response.

Minny just doesn't have the goals in the lineup or the talent to compete with Hawks.

Yeah, Detroit, a 7th seed, even in a losing effort, are making a better playoff impression than anybody I'm seeing in the East.

Its pretty impressive to see how hard the Wings are pushing a very good Ducks team.

Really we know this, theres no defensive effort in the East that would be stopping the Ducks, Hawks, Sharks from filling the net. Kings and Blues grinding would win out as well. I think only Boston could hang with these teams.

Pens keep looking like the 82 Oilers.

I think the bruins could conpete with the Blues/Kings as well.

When I watch the Western series the compete level is off the charts. Every single shift matters, every play matters.

Nobody is sitting here saying "I wonder what Blues team is going to show up tonight".

indeed, they weren't much of an underdog, despite being #7

When you win in 5, it's not about being pesky.

No, its about getting a very fortunate matchup.

Ottawa was in 3rd place in conference on Feb 28 and sunk to 7th by Apr 28. had this been an 82 game season one wonders whether they would have made the playoffs. Ottawa was a .500 team since February.

But when you play a club that looked like world beaters the first 20 games and ordinary the rest its a toss up between two clubs both headed in the wrong direction.

God the Wild are terrible. They don't employ the trap anymore but they're still one of the most boring teams around. Glad that series is over.

In other news, putting all my vCash [:O] on the Bruins tonight. I really think they close this thing out with the Leafs.

This was an Ottawa team that had played the majority of the 2nd half of the season without Karlsson, Spezza, or Anderson. Hard to win without your top players.

Lets be honest they were a long shot to make the playoffs last year. I really don't think we would've done any better in the playoffs.

Granted.

But point being they beat a Montreal club that was second seed which reveals what is a very weak conference. THIS motley and easily beat Habs team is 2nd best? Really? Every club in the east should be ashamed.

That the habs placed second is all anybody needs to know about how weak the East is.
