Ullstrom vs Nino vs Ders vs JJ

A bit off the topic of postseason, but the draft lottery got me thinking a bit towards next season, and I'm curious to see who people around here would choose if the offseason plays out like this:

Isles replace Boyes with Strome; Aucoin with Nelson.

Moulson - Tavares - Strome
Bailey - Nielsen - Okposo
______ - Nelson - Grabner
Martin - Cizikas - McDonald

Who would be the favorite for that 3LW? Ullstrom, Niederreiter, Lee or Joensuu?

I would promote Cizikas to the 3rd line. Guy has done everything to prove he is NOT a 4th liner. I'd start Nelson on the wing with Grabner and Cizikas. Anders Lee between McDonald and Martin would be punishing as a 4th line.

Yea, I been saying he should be on the 3rd line right now over Aucoin. Just my opinion though.

Moulson is 29 right now. He'll be 30 next year in his scenario.

If it makes you feel any better Lubomir Visnovsky will be 37.
I have to assume Nabokov will be back next year at age 38.

True there aren't many 30 year old forwards on the team (not sure what that means) How many teenagers does he have listed? None

How many are below legal drinking age? Just Strome.

Looks pretty good to me.

Oops. Thanks for the correction.

Still think the forwards lack a veteran presence.

If the veteran presence is Boyes we may as well not have any veteran presence. Really the only true veterans on offense this year were Boyes and Reasoner, arguably 2 of our worst forwards. Nielsen, Moulson, Tavares, Bailey, and Okposo all have enough experience to lead the way offensively, and they proved it this year.

I'd much rather see the lines as:

Moulson-Tavares-XXX
Bailey-Nielsen-Okposo
Grabner-Strome-Niederreiter
Martin-Cizikas-McDonald

Something tells me Nelson shouldn't play until midway through next year.

But in your scenario, I guess I have to vote Nino, but I want to see him at RW again. Leave Grabner at LW, he hasn't been a regular RW in his whole tenure with the Islanders.

I like this but also agree with others that Cizikas should be on the 3rd line.

What if Strome entered the nhl as JT's RW? He shoots righty so will be in position to bang in hard passes from Tavares. Less pressure than starting as the 2nd or 3rd line C.

Make Casey the 3rd line C.

Grabs - CC- Nino

Very dynamic line. me likey

I don't think the Oilers would have any interest in Streit. If we are going to get Eberle it would have to be a package around Hamonic. I really would not want to see that though.

I would like to see Snow throw a nice offer at Nathan Horton, he would be a very good winger for Tavares.

Moulson-Tavares-Horton
Bailey-Nielsen-Okposo
Nelson/Nino/Strome-Cizikas-Grabner
Martin-Lee-Mcdonald

I think Nino has a better shot making the team than Strome. I think Strome will start the season in the AHL and be brought up eventually.

I would move Moulson we got something decent back.

As for the poll, I'm guessing Ullstrom. Speed, size, and a great wrist shot.

Nino will be in Strome's spot

I think Strome would have to develop a drinking problem this offseason to not make the team next year. IMO there's no way that Boyes is re-signed, and I can't see the team investing big or even decent money in a UFA/trade replacement when they have Strome knocking on the door. They could go the stop-gap route, but who is to say that the stop-gap would even be a better option than Strome?

I think this Bridgeport stint was a way to get Strome a taste of playing RW at the pro level. Now he can go into the offseason knowing what he needs to work on, and he will most likely work with Tavares and Moulson on the ice to get a head start in the chemistry department.

Promoting from within to fill the holes at forward will allow the Isles to focus all of their offseason attention and resources into the defense, and hopefully finding a long-term replacement for Mark Streit(Yandle).

I really want to see a full year of Martin-Cizikas-McDonald. I'd like to see Matthew Lombardi to a one year contract.

Moulson-Tavares-Strome
Bailey-Nielsen-Okposo
Grabner-Lombardi-Niederreiter
Martin-Cizikas-McDonald

I wasn't really familiar with Lombardi. But I'll have to disagree. His best days seem to be behind him with his last impact season in 09-10.

In 62 games with the Leafs last year, 8G 10A -19.

http://ducks.nhl.com/club/player.htm?id=8468695

He played 2 games in 10-11 so I researched why...

http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=652514

Can't recommend him until he shows he can be the same player. Neck injuries are tricky.

With all of our youth, I'd rather see Ullstrom in the lineup by far - or find a 3rd line C whose best years are in front of him.

I almost forgot how big of an anti-Nino guy you were.

Regardless of what's happened in the past, IMO the fact that he was Bridgeport's leading goal-scorer while also being their youngest player by almost a full year(at least up until the Juniors came along) should buy the kid a slight break.

Nino & the # 1 pick will be traded at the draft for either Bernier or a top 4 dman ( Yandle).
But i agree Strome makes the team next year.

Snow should be fired on the spot for a deal like that. And I'm not even the worlds biggest nino fan.

It has reached the point where it is now hilarious how overrated Bernier and Yandle are on this board.

I still have yet to make the obligatory "take a swipe at Bobby Ryan before the draft" post, myself.

Bernier? Yes, he's overrated.

Yandle? No, he's not overrated. Maybe Nino and a 1st is too much, but I would pay a solid price for him. Especially if Streit doesn't re-sign.

Yandle-Hamonic
Hickey-Visnovsky
Strait-MacDonald
Carkner

I like that.

He's better than Aucoin, and weirdly enough him being injury prone isn't a bad thing for this team. It means they can call up Nelson whenever Lombardi would get hurt. I would only sign him for a year anyway.
