The Rangers (1-3) made Blackburn the 10th overall pick in the 2001 draft then, because of injuries to Mike Richter, needed him immediately. They acquired Markkanen from Edmonton in the offseason knowing Blackburn's development would be better suited if he carried a heavy workload for Hartford (AHL).

"Well, nobody said anything like that to me,'' said Blackburn, who went 8-16-4 with a 3.17 goals-against average last season, including a stretch in which he started 18 straight games. "So I don't know what the plan is. Whatever the plan is, I'm going to go with that.''

Am I missing something? How does he not know what the plan is at this stage?

Id say that it was pretty obvious unless he really is that stupid. He is hopefully also mature enough to see that its the best thing for him and the Rangers.

Blackburn wanted to be the starter out of preseason last year, beating out Mike Richter. He openly said that. I think he just sets his goals high and will ignore any reasons not to which in my opinion is very good.

True. The mindset should be to come in and try to win the job. He should also understand tho, that he may be better off spending a season or two in Hartford.
