Amazingly, though Hannan got away with a Hannan Mugging(TM) on that one-on-one break.

I agree about the Hannan - Stuart thing. I actually thought Irwin and Boyle were the worst in the d-zone today.

And now it's the playoffs, hannahs play will be welcome as he tries to snuggle all the opposing forwards. He should be fine as long as his footspeed doesn't hinder him too much.

I'd rather dress Tennyson as a 7th defenseman than play Kennedy. He's small, soft, weak on the puck, and would get completely steamrolled by the Canucks regardless of matchups.

No. They guy wasn't trying to go around Hannan, he was trying to go through him. Hannan held his ground. Didn't hurt that he played the puck just moments before.

Really hope Gomez gets back next game because I'm not holding my breath on Havlat. It's a shame he can't play wing because he's just a smaller version of Havlat so he would fit in on Havlat's spot. Although Havlat is better defensively so they might not be able to play Couture/Marleau as the shutdown line if Gomez plays with them.

That gets called 10/10 times in the regular season.

He might be a good matchup for their equipment manager...

He had the puck, Hannan doesn't have to give away his ice.......though that was Hannans bread and butter his entire carrier.

Nothing wrong with Hannan. As I've been arguing, it's more the pairing. Thought Hannan made some really savvy plays, but we did have trouble leaving the zone and there was a few great chances against for them. The drop pass into the slot was particularly hard for them to handle, but that involves back checking from forwards too.

It is sortof like in track, if you jump before the gun shoots, you get a warning. If you do it again, you are ejected. It would be foolish not to try to jump it the first time.
They do the same thing on the second round. The ref's are just afraid to call it a penalty. they just blow the whistle and drop it again if it's that bad.

On the NHL network replay they showed the play where Havlat got hurt. Bieksa kinda pseudo-speared him in a "tender location", so to speak.

Yep, and the pairing didn't even look that bad today.
And I still don't get why some people are saying Hannan is slow. He's not fast, but he got back into the plays pretty well today. Irwin might be the slowest D on the team.

Well, that's a relief.

But really, maybe he'll be ready by Friday.

Reagrivated his "over the wall" injury?

If Havlat's out and Gomez is back I'd suggest:

Marleau-Couture-Torres
Galiardi-Thornton-Burns
Sheppard-Pavelski-Wingels
Desjardins-Gomez-Burish

Torres deserves to play up on the top line with his excellent play tonight, and Sheppard easily goes on the third line for Raffi. It lets Koala roll 4 effective lines.

Ya, Torres didn't look out of place on the top 6. He's a natural right wing and better defensively than Gomez. Also might deter people from running Couture.

Looks pretty good. I was thinking

Galiardi - Thornton - Burns
Marleau - Couture - Torres
Wingels - Gomez - Pavelski
Sheppard - Desjardins - Burish

Hopefully Havlat will be fine by Game 2 though. His creativity and puck control will help a lot. And Demers (and hopefully Gomez is 100% by Friday).

I like that lineup. Send it to TMac.

However I think Havlat will come back Friday.

I rather not rush Demers back and re-aggravate the injury.

The puck was long gone when Hannan put him down.

Just got done watching the game, what a great start. That was a team effort in every sense of the word.

Some of the pluses and minuses

+ Vlasic/Braun looked more than capable of hanging with the Sedins
+ Niemi continued to be Niemi
+ Torres was all over the place
+ PP looks better
+ As others have said, Hannan/Stuart was actually pretty decent

- Thornton was a non-factor after the first (Fortunately so were Kesler and the Sedins)
- The Roy line gave us all kinds of trouble
- Havlat

It was directly behind them because he thought he could teleport through Hannan, again, Hannan doesn't have to give up his ice. Maybe putting him down was excessive but he doesn't have to move out of the way

I believe Hansen (?) still technically had possession. Hannan has been better than I thought he would be. Veterans are funny that way, elevating in the PO's. They remind me of the joke about the young bull and the old bull.
