They did, but depth is an issue.

Getting Armia back and 1 or 2 of Girgensons/Larsson/Flynn will obviously help a lot. Of course, Buffalo is never healthy, so I expect to see this lineup pretty consistently.

At this point, the defense is the strong point.

McNabb-Ruhwedel
Sulzer-Bagnall

That's a very good top 4. With Hackett in goal, they should be pretty stingy.

I wouldn't be surprised if they force-fed ice time to the dynamic duo of Szydlowski and Parker. Last year of their ELCs, they likely want to know if they are missing something in their potential before letting them go. For the record, I do not agree with handing ice time to players, this is purely my own speculation of what the coaches are thinking or are instructed to think.

I think they already know that they aren't going to re-sign Parker and Szydlowski (absent a huge breakthrough season).

Yep, 70 players are currently on IR by NHL teams. Season hasn't even started yet.

Who do you think will form the 3rd pairing for the Amerks, Crawford and x ? Who would you say is the most likely candidate, MadMac, Lepkowski or JGL?

Yes, it appears that Buffalo is the only NHL team that sustains injuries:

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/injuries/

A quick scan of the list confirms that they are the only team to use upper or lower body injury as well

Yes, Leduc is practicing with Crawford.

Also, they have Catenacci at center. They switched him to center in Traverse City while switching Girgensons from center to LW.

Sounds like they want him to have the puck more, like Ennis.

Sadly, Leduc seems to be the 6th defenseman. He'll be out of the lineup by game 5 or 6 probably. Hopefully. MacKenzie is better.

Matt Hackett back practicing with #Amerks today. Connor Knapp and Nathan Lieuwen both on ice as well.

Do you know the line combinations for today's practice?

Does Andre Deveaux have a deal in the AHL? I keep seeing him on UFA lists. He'd be a tidy pickup for the Amerks.

Pretty sure I remember him signing somewhere a few weeks ago, not a 100% on it though...

Is there any word on who will definitely go to the ECHL by the way? Makarov I guess and then who else, Szydlowski, Parker, Schaller once he is a 100% again, Lepkowski?

Szydlowski seems like a given -- he never materialized his in-tight finish nor any of his policeman tendancies any time I've ever seen him.

Parker... I don't know if the resolution of his family situation will help out his mental game. I imagine what he went through with his Dad didn't help his on-ice performance. It seems likely he'll get assigned to the 'Coast though.

Lepkowski getting the Fienhage treatment seems like he'll get time further down as well.

As for Schaller... not sure. He may be tabbed with the Schofield minutes from last year.

Google just pops his one year deal with Florida/SA last year...

I think Makarov and Knapp with go.

As far as skaters, I don't think there are extra at the moment to send them the ECHL. I think we have to wait until Armia, Foligno and Tropp come back from injuries to see who is getting sent down.

Adam-Varone-Tardif
Gillies-Catenacci-Zigomanis
Roy-Ellis-Jacobs
Szydlowski-Schaller-Parker
Locke-Hutchings-McGuire
Sundher (injured)

14 of the above forwards currently have contracts. 2 are nursing or coming back from injury.

I think Schaller will not go to the ECHL.

There are 8 D. I can see them keeping 8 to start. If Lepkowski doesn't get into games then he may go to the ECHL. But think about it.... If Sabres have one injury on D, then they will call a player up, necessitating the need for Lepkowski as the 7th in Rochester.

Can Lepkowski go to the ECHL? I can see a player who was buffalo property go but Lepkowski was signed to Rochester only.

I'm guessing they signed him to a "2-way" contract (AHL/ECHL)

No set team that we know of. Probably be what it was last year: as needed to whatever team they can place them with.

According to the ECHL website, only Colorado and Fort Wayne have TBA for their affiliate, while Las Vegas is independent. I think it is far too late in the game to pick up an affiliate, but I'd think the TBA teams are far more likely than a dual affiliate. In regards to location, it looks like a lot more NHL teams are affiliating with any team and not worrying about some of the typical factors such as practice and travel times.

I thought that Portland and Rochester shared the ECHL Team Gwinnett Gladiators located in Georgia.

I would love it if FW would be an affiliate!
They already crush that league almost every year...
To see some Sabres prospects would be great!

They did for a season, I think it was two years ago, but the affiliation wasn't renewed after that one season and as far as I know the Sabres are not planning on getting another affiliate in the ECHL anytime soon.
