Everytime I see something hockey players/Halloween, I think of Tyler Ennis who a few years ago when asked what his favorite Halloween candy was - he said "Potato Chips". I'm surprise thats his favorite but not surprise that he got "Potato Chips" - a couple of neighbors of mine always gave out those small bags of chips/fritos/pretzels etc.

They can only play 5 in any given game though. I think we'd be better off with 1 less vet and one more prospect like Girgensons or Larsson who can actually play every game.

@kevinoDandC

Colton Gillies didn't skate this a.m. with the #Amerks. Yes, Patrick Kaleta is here, as scheduled.

@kevinoDandC
Demoted #Sabres RW Patrick Kaleta will very likely make his #Amerks debut on Friday at home against Binghamton.

@kevinoDandC
Asked if he thinks the #NHL may have had influence on #Sabres waiving him, Patrick Kaleta said he has his guess "but it's just my guess."

@kevinoDandC
#Sabres RW Patrick Kaleta on coming to #Amerks: "I have no doubt in my mind I am going to get better."

‏@kevinoDandC
#Amerks C Kevin Porter (muscle strain) also won't play Wednesday so no veteran decisions for 1 game anyway.

I didn't realize how young Varone is. For whatever reason I thought he was a AHL journeyman in his late 20s

How would Varone's game be best described? His stat line looks like one a playmaker would have.

Does he have good speed?

Is he a good skater?

Not particularly quick -- he's positionally pretty solid but I've never been impressed with Phil's footspeed.

Well, he's had three days to be pissed and break all his legos.

****

I think Kaleta will make it back next season. McCormick made it back after being waived last season.

Is there any chance Armia would be playing tonight already against the Bulldogs?

I'd say no. He's not on the roster yet and I would think they want him to get a few practices before playing.

Doesn't sound like he'll play this weekend either. Probably next week at some point.

#Amerks forward Jonathan Parker has been loaned to Colorado Eagles of @ECHL. The 3rd-year pro has seen action in 2 of RCH's 8 games so far.

Good win for the Amerks tonight and big game for Rudy on the scoresheet. I'm curious to see how Cassidy rotates Porter and Kaleta in given the overload of veterans. I'd think Porter's speed makes him an upgrade over Ellis, but scratching your captain's not too nice. Getting Armia should be a big boon, too.

They did their best to collapse in the 3rd period again. Serious issues playing with a lead.

11/6 - RCH 5, HAM 3 -- Amerks tame Bulldogs in 5-3 win:
Quote:
Rookie defenseman Chad Ruhwedel scored the first two goals of his professional career, including the eventual game-winner, as the Rochester Americans held on to defeat the North Division rival Hamilton Bulldogs 5-3 Wednesday night at The Blue Cross Arena. The victory was the second in the last three games for the Amerks, who improve their record to 5-2-1-1 on the young season and have collected points in six straight games.

Mike Zigomanis scored his fourth goal of the season early in the first period to go along with an assist, while Matt Ellis and Frederick Roy also scored for the Amerks. Matt Hackett made 20 saves in net for his third win of the year. Phil Varone and Alexander Sulzer both added assists to extend their personal point streaks to nine and six games, respectively. Kevin Sundher and Brayden McNabb also assisted for the Amerks.

Joonas Nattinen, Sven Andrighetto and Louis Leblanc scored for Hamilton, as the Bulldogs dropped to 5-3-0-3 this season. Dustin Tokarski made 22 saves in net in the losing effort.

Ruhwedel is pretty damn good. Excellent defense most of the time, and he now has 2+4 on the year, points wise. Too bad we have such a logjam defensively...

Luke Adam and Phil Varone continue to get on the stat sheet. Varone has a point in every single game this year. That's crazy. Adam's streak of goals in 5 straight games was stopped tonight, but he picked up an Assist. They play very well with Zigomanis.

McNabb got into 2 fights tonight and won them both. He teed off on somebody in the 1st period, and then after a gorgeous, clean, open ice hit in the 3rd somebody jumped him and he took them down to the ice. McNabb has a weird reluctance to shoot, which is very frustrating, but he picked up a nice assist on Ruhwedel's 1st goal tonight.

The team has a lot to work on, but I'm pretty excited for this group. Once the Sabres season ends and they're allowed to send some youngsters down for the playoff run, look out. This team could be scary good.

Glad that Ruhwedel seems to be embracing Rochester so well. Was afraid that after signing a contract with the Sabres on the condition he got playing time with them last season that he would be disappointed to be sent down this year.

Hackett wouldn't look out of place in Buffalo if he keeps flopping to the ice early on every shot.

I'm thrilled Chad has continued his solid play.

Those who know me and my affinity for defensemen will recall me raving about him last year in his short stint - there was definitely something to work with regarding his body of work and his skillset.

I said the only comparable I could draw was a middle-class Rafalski...I'll stick with that until I see more NHL time from him
