Forgot to mention - Tyson Barrie is very good! Very impressive skater, great shot, great hands.... he'll be in the NHL very soon. Made Hackett look stupid in the shootout.

Hackett made himself look stupid in the shootout. Didn't even try on that last one.

@kevinoDandC

Alex Sulzer in practice, an indication he's ready to play in Wednesday's 10 a.m. game at Hamilton. Missed past 3 games w/ lower body injury.

@kevinoDandC

Rookie RW Joel Armia no longer in red #Amerks practice sweater so he appears to be much closer to making his pro debut.

@kevinoDandC

#Amerks winger Joel Armia: "I'm pretty happy to be back." He hasn't played a real game since April with Assat Pori in Finnish league.

Notes from the game
This was the first game that I got to see this year but hopefully I will see a majority of the remaining home games as I am likely to buy a ticket package soon.

Luke Adam despite scoring goals still does not have a future in the NHL. Still soft and slow. He can be a AHL scoring type similar to Mancari. Methinks he is gone at the end of the year.

Mike Zigomanis - played a strong game, great leader to have and makes others around him better.

Pat Kaleta - had a nice goal which showed poise and patience after a horrible give away from the Lake Erie player who threw it right in front of the net. He had some solid clean hits and the crowd loved him.

Matt Hackett - played pretty well although he gave up some bad rebounds. He almost looks lazy, he is slow to move once down. When he moves laterally he often drops his glove which got exposed on a few occasions especially the shoot out. He still shows anger, anything that comes near him gets a push or tap in front and after the shootout he stormed off and broke his stick. Never knew about this when we got him

Chad Ruhwedel - Best defenseman, great outlets, smooth, could be a more physical in his own end.

Other quicker notes

Catenacci was decent, very fast and smart, can play in both zones.
Jacobs - poor game
Sundher - poor game and loses most battles, weak on the puck
Ellis - generic Matty hard work but even in the AHL lacks goal scoring talent and hands
Lepkowski - barely played
Hutchings - got drilled, was ok
Tardif - meh had a couple of nice shots
Varone - good AHL talent, kind of like a poor mans Briere. Somehow he manages to get underneath other teams skin.
MacKenzie - had a bad hit from behind

Overall the team is slow and lacks scoring ability, much like the Sabres. They're PP was pretty bad yesterday although it has good numbers. They couldn't enter the zone on the PP. Hackett had a beautiful breakway save in OT to send it to a shootout. The offense had some good possession time for spurts but could not finish.

I wouldn't necessarily judge the team overall based on yesterday. They were missing Porter, Sulzer, Gillies, Roy and Armia. Pretty significant group of players.

I'm also getting very annoyed with the handling of Tardif. 30 goal scorer and he's playing with 4th liners.

What's up with Porter? Why was he out -- vet rotation? If so, that seems pretty silly...

Injured. He's returning on Friday. As is Sulzer. In my mind, Kaleta and Ellis should be the odd men out when all are healthy.

@kevinoDandC

The lineup headaches start Friday for Chadd Cassidy. Return of Kevin Porter, Alex Sulzer means #Amerks have 7 veterans and only 5 can play.

Armia playing tomorrow morning according to Kevin Oklobzija, as already pointed out.

Can't wait.

Hackett has faced more shots than anyone having played the same number of games by a fair margin, even with him being pulled in two of them, while still maintaining a respectable 0.908 save %. Drew Macintyre(who many here consider to be a good goalie) by comparison has faced nearly 70 fewer shots and has a 0.907. That to me puts it into perspective, although I would be very happy if he did play exceptionally well and steal a few more games for the team. Last night was dissapointing because he arguably kept the team in a game they were barely in only to lose embarassingly in the shootout. Totally understand the frustration....

Do you think that with some more work he could even be an option for an NHL 4th line some day or is he just to limited in other areas of his game?
Any insight ?

He has a lot of heart it would seem, as you can tell he's always giving 110%. I'm not sure that's enough, given his skill set, but I'm definitely willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

He will take on ANYONE, loves to get under the other team's skin, and is fun to watch. However, if he does the same thing in the NHL he would get killed. Like legitimately he might die. To me, he's a career AHL-er, but I sure hope he gets some time in the NHL.

I count 8 veterans:
Bagnall
Sulzer
Zigomanis
Porter
Ellis
Kaleta
Gillies
Tardif

I keep reading that Rochester has 7. Which of the above is not a vet?

Gillies is an "exempt" veteran. Between 260-320 games. So he doesn't count.

The AHL-schedule is such a mess. On November 1st the Amerks had their only game in a span of about 10 days (October 27th to November 5th)... Now with tomorrows game they will have played 5 games in 8 days since November 6th and with a couple of other games coming up on Friday and Saturday they will be at 7 in 11

Re: Freddy Roy

I agree. The few games I saw this season he works like heck and will battle along the boards. But most of the time guys can bump him off the puck during board battles.

F Joel Armia making pro debut right now for #Amerks (at Hamilton), wearing No. 33. Selected 16th overall in 2011 NHL Entry Draft by #Sabres.
There you go.

In other #Sabres organizational news, the #Amerks lead 1-0 in Hamilton. Phil Varone with the goal.

Amerks win 3-1 - Adam with two goals - game winner - 33 seconds into the third period - empty netter (via the power-play) with 17 seconds left. Varone had the other goal. Sundher, Zigomanis, Tardif and Varone assisted on Adams two goals while Varones was unassisted.

Armia finished with three shots - no assists - was a 0 +/- (was on the ice for Varones goal and the lone Hamilton goal) and had two penalty minutes - tripping call - 13:05 - third period. Hackett picked up the win in net making 26 saves on 27 shots.

Amerks snap a three game losing streak (was one regulation loss, one overtime loss and one shootout loss) now 6-3-2-2 on the season - 16 pts - first place in the North Division. They continue their road trip with games at Utica on Friday and at Binghamton on Saturday. Go Amerks!
