Larsson - Girgensons - Armia
Catenacci - Adam - Tropp
Ellis - Varone - Jacobs
Sundher - Schaller - Parker
x: Locke, Szydlowski

Bagnall - Ristolainen
McNabb - Ruhwedel
Crawford - JGL/MacKenzie
x: JGL/MacKenzie

Hackett
Makarov

I do think Larsson has a good chance at making the Sabres though. In that case, I'd bump up Cat and Sundher/Locke would battle for LW2 with no one else signed, which I doubt would be the case. Also, Leggio could easily replace Hackett if Miller is moved before Leggio signs elsewhere.
Weren't they the other way around last year? Larsson center/Girgs wing

Didn't see this here, fwiw, Pronman has Sabres as number 4 on organizational prospect rankings.

Link.

JGL was hands down the worst player on the team last year, just awful from start to finish.

For the most part, yes. Larsson did center Girgensons in the Game 3 finale. However, they had been centering separate lines as the season wound down and Girgensons blossomed, but did continue their chemistry on special teams.

I'd like to keep Girgensons at center, his preferred position.

Whitmore signs with Hershey (who else) and Leggio will probably follow soon. Hershey is just killing it again this offseason. The model AHL franchise.

Damn, I thought they'd trust Grubauer to take over full-time...

Called it for Whitmore, now Leggio has to follow suit. I'm guessing Washington offered him a potential at NHL time, hence luring him away from Europe. I don't think the Sabres would give him NHL time again unless it was a serious string of injuries, even during a rebuild.

Highly doubtful. He's not stupid. His comments to the Hershey beat writer was that he wanted to go to an AHL team that wants to win a championship. Hershey does that. I'm sure he wants to make the NHL, but he's not getting younger and I'm sure he knows he's a minor leaguer at this point.

Caps have signed him so he's off to Hershey. Good call.

Hershey/Washington does this every offseason. Consistently sign big name free agents. And it works, since they have 2 championships in the last 6 years.

Chris Mueller signs with the Stars. A guy I thought the Sabres may target. Looking like another typical Regier offseason. Most of the top forward free agents are gone, Darcy hasn't signed one yet.

This is the Amerks' AHL thread and I'm talking about strictly AHL success only.

Mueller signs with the Stars. So much for that idea.

Gotcha, I was just curious...I remember Chris Bourque seemingly resigning there 15 times before going to Boston

The guy I always think of when I see Hershey though is Graham Mink

It would be nice if the Sabres were going to suffer at the NHL level if they would push to win at the AHL level.

I know development, development, development.

But, I would like to see Pegula Bucks used in a way where I could get really excited about the on ice product with one of the teams...

And for the record, I want Girgensons playing center the entire season with the Amerks unless he is so good that he's wasting his time in the AHL and they move him up to the big club because he'll get serious minutes there.

It's the same old argument, you can develop AND win at the same time. It's not a black or white issue.

There's also the Spengler Cup this year. In a way the Amerks are representing the AHL. Won't be good if they're embarrassed over there. The defense has the makings of being pretty solid, but they need to sign a few veteran forwards. The list was already thin to begin with this year, much thinner now.

I'm guessing Darcy's idea of forward help is returning Girgensons (best player on the ice in the playoffs!), Armia, and Luke Adam to Rochester.

Here's a few forward names that I would like to see in an Amerks jersey:

Darren Haydar, Jamie Tardif, Tim Kennedy, Tim Brent, Phillipe Cornet, Krys Kolanos, Aaron Palushaj, Mike Zigomanis, Brad Winchester, Andre Deveaux, Brandon Segal.

Still some good names out there, but probably won't be for long. Need 2 vet forwards at the very least I think.

Evan Rankin signs with Syracuse. Was hopeful to re-sign with the Amerks, but no contract offer there. Perfect.

Interesting comments from Rankin, and a not so subtle jab at Regier

Quote:
Rankin said he had discussions with the Amerks about returning but got the sense Rochester wanted to get younger.

"I'm not a genius or anything, but it looks like they are trying to build with youth,'' Rankin said. "I'm glad to be on a team where you're able to compete for a championship every year. To be part of a program like this, it speaks volumes. Syracuse had posed an offer, and I kind of jumped on it.''

Rankin's ties to the Lightning organization run right to near the top. Tampa Bay coach Jon Cooper coached him on a powerhouse midget team, Honeybaked of Detroit.

"It's good to be in an organization with someone at the top who knows and cares about you,'' Rankin said.

*Zing*

Rankin's quickness and ability to finish in tight will be missed. Who the hell is going to score for this team this year? Man....
