Skills Competition as Medal Events

Just an idea (and not one I even fully agree with, but it's fun to think about).

What if several of the "skills competition" contests that are done prior to NHL/AHL/KHL/etc All Star games were Olympic Medal events? Obviously there is some overlap with existing events (the races and speed skating, for example), but others could potentially work out (hardest shot, accurate shot, shootout tournaments, etc). It would be a fun way of giving out individual medals to hockey players.

Not to mention, it would likely boost the Canadian medal count.

Not really to be honest. It would actually degrade Olympics (even further), but I like the idea in theory. But that's why we have skills competitions in the NHL/KHL.

The IOC has done more to degrade the Olympics than this could ever do.

The swimming events are perhaps particularly pathetic. Here we have a rather small upper middleclass sport and they get to compete in no less than eight different styles on each distance. For christs sake, just see who gets there the fastest, no matter how they choose to do it!
