Ducks pass. Not enough value for the Ducks.

I can't see why the Ducks would do this, poor value what they're giving up

Brutal, yes, especially when you consider that Zidlicky's a free agent.

Let's try something else

NJ's 1st 2013 (9th overall)
Stefan Matteau
Rights to David Clarkson

Bobby Ryan
Conditional 2nd 2014 (if Clarkson signs with ANA prior to free agency)

That doesn't accomplish anything for us. We really don't need picks or prospects.

Take Sbisa and Zidlicky out of the deal. Change the 2nd rounder to a 1st rounder, and then the Ducks might listen.

If we could get Clarkson signed he'd be an awesome addition though.

We don't need to trade Ryan to do that.

And the scapegoating above is why these threads are popping up like wildfire, not because there's any real news that would suggest he's being traded.

Bottom line is that if we move several assets to acquire Bobby Ryan, odds are he'll test the waters in two years and will sign elsewhere.

Let's just keep our young, cap friendly and talented players instead of gambling on resigning Ryan in the next 24 months.

Considering Henrique and Ryan had the same amount of goals this year, I do not want the devils giving up that package for Ryan. There are other reasons:

1) Bobby Ryan will be only be on NJ for two years at a decent cap hit. Idk if he will resign with the devils after that or not, but he will command a high salary regardless.

2) Adam Henrique will sign a contract for roughly half of Ryan's for the next two years. Based on goal production, I dont think they will be that far apart to warrant giving up Henrique and a high first rounder.

3) Adam Henrique is three years younger and the devils will get more years of service out of him.

The Devils Board has been talking about moving their 9th overall pick for a proven top-6 guy, like the Jordan Staal trade last year.

We desperately need top-6 help, and with the Kovy penalty looming next year we need to make the playoffs or we forfeit a top pick. Instead of waiting for a prospect to develop, some think it would be better to trade for a winger under contract and in his prime.

Ryan's name came up because he's a legitimate top-6 winger in his prime and is from New Jersey. Some seem to think that the Ducks are in cap hell and will be forced to move a big name, though I don't see it like that. It seems like he would be a good guy for NJ to target, although Anaheim fans don't seem to think he'd be reasonably available.

That being said, New Jersey is short on top quality assets. Anaheim doesn't want to trade Ryan for anything less than that, nor should they. And what Anaheim wants, New Jersey can't afford to give up. So it seems there's no deal to be made here.

as I said in the other Ryan/NJ thread...the Devils cannot give up Henrique AND other assets to get Ryan. they need to add Ryan TO Henrique.

there probably isn't a way to do taht, and thats fine. but trading one forward for another is counter productive for NJ.

While I doubt he's available, I am a bit curious why Devils fans aren't more interested in Palmieri, given that he grew up there.

Seeing as many of those proposals leave us with less, I fail to see that as the motive.

Because the home town thing is stupid. The Devils aren't going to pursue every player that ever lived in NJ.

Parise made this hometown thing so much more than it is. He went home, sure. He also signed a ridiculous contract. If Philly offered that contract, he would have signed it. He manipulated the home town thing to divert the attention from him CLEARLY taking a pay day and now everyone and their mother thinks players are going to return home. Zajac to Winnipeg, Clarkson to Toronto, etc.
