How much money do we have to spare?

Does anyone know. so we know what kind of talent is in our price range, should we choose to trade Comrie or sign a free agent.

Less money:Brewer,Smyth,Cross,Laraque,Moreau and York all got raises. Lost Skyreach name money.

More money: Deadline deal money saving. no Marchant,Cleary, or Swanson. If Comrie doesn't sign we have his salary.

There's also the gain in currency here, with the rise of the Canadian dollar. It wasn't THAT long ago it was at 67 cents, today it's over 74...

And there should be a good chunk of revenue from the Heritage Classic I would think, too.

There seems to be a lot of changes this year. Also consider...

Less sponsorship from Air Canada (as mentioned somewhere else on the board).

Added sponsorship for the Heritage Classic Legends Game and Evening with the stars. Plus merchandise for the big event.

Reduced costs from running the farm team.

Perhaps no lottery this year?

Although the loss of Cleary and Swanson, their salaries will be replaced by the likes of Torres, Rita, Pisani (whoever sticks with the big club).

More season ticket holders = more sellouts = less marketing required

Impending CBA lockout will require belt-tightening.

I collected a few players contract terms but many are undisclosed which makes it pretty hard to find out much of our budget. Its our 25th anniversary I think if there is any year Kevin would be willing to dip into the red it would be this one.

All the players make increasingly more each year but pay for yrs. contracts(in millions)

Isbister $1.925
Laraque $1.275
Moreau $1.6
Staios $1.1 (why is he making less then Isbister? )
Pisani $0.6
Smith $2.3
Cleary Buyout $.366
Smyth $3.45

Total $12.616

I'd guess Heritage brings in about $650,000 (11,000seats about $40 average ticket price and then merchandise and drinks)

I'd say the number of tickets (additional to what's included in season ticket packages) is closer to 25,000. Remember that each season ticket holder (~14,000) got to purchase one (and I've heard 2 from some) additional ticket, and then there were an additional 7,000 through the lottery. I think you could add some more for promos and so forth to get up to 25,000.

Plus, since the minimum ticket price was $60, and the bulk of the tickets being in the $110-$135 range, I'd say the average ticket price is closer to $95.

So... 25,000 X $95 = $2,375,000 (plus the 1/82 portion of each season ticket package and all of the obstructed views to be sold later).

Forgot about those two, as well. There are almost NO costs to running the farm team this year, from what I remember about the Roadrunners deal, so that gets back $1.5-$2 million there, too (I think).

Lottery wasn't much last year - $500-$600K or something? The extra PPV games this year might cover that.

Overall, though, looking fairly good.

Heritage classic

Does anyone know if the oilers will be using their "vintage" 1980's style uniforms?

I read in one of the local papers here in Edmonton that the Oilers will get more money by the new Coliseum sponser. It stated that they could get around $3million or more by the new sponser. That will help a lot!

Go to the address below and it will give you the salaries for all the Oilers signed to contracts for this year. Everybody is there except for Jarret Stoll, Jani Rita, and Comrie. The first 2 because they have 2 way contracts and haven't played in the NHL yet and Comrie because he hasn't signed. Without these three we are at about $30 US million (42 million Cdn.) on ice payroll. Office staff plus coaches and scouts, who knows. Rita was a first rounder and will be around a million a year if they keep him. Stoll is prbably around 5-6 hundred thousand. Servicing the debt borrowed to buy the team. I don't know.

45 games (4 exhibitions) times 16,000 times $40 ticket average is $28.8 million Canadian. The Oilers claim the Heritage Classic will be a breakeven event. Three million for the naming of the facility. Lottery 2.5 million. You are up to about 34.3 Canadian. Money from the league $3 million US which is about 4.2 Canadian takes it up to $37.5. I don't know what the boxes or advertising brings in. Merchandising who knows. TV deal with SportsNet and CBC. None of these things are public I don't think.

All said and done the biggest changes to revenue have to be the increase in value of the Canadian dollar and naming the facility if they find somebody because I'm sure Skyreach was done as a favour by them because there was nobody else to step up. I think they got 500,000 a year. There should be an extra $8.5 mil Cdn from those two sources. Good luck figuring it all out.

Last I heard, lottery revenue was quite low for the last one, like $500-$600K. Not sure what this latest one is doing (the $5 one) but I sure haven't heard much about it for a long time.

Cleary's in Phoenix.
Marchant's in Columbus.
But where's Swanson? I did not hear what happened to him?

I took the estimate provided by the Alberta governments lotto board the Oiler p.r. guy hinted it was too high but I have no idea how much they might of overestimated it.I am pretty sure the $5 one's are doing better. I have not been working on this since yesterday but a lot of the information I need to find seems undisclosed or hidden for the most part. I think we need to start making assumptions or ballpark guesses for much of the rest and still I think their would be too many untangibles. Anyone know how much doe we get from the advertisements on the side of the boards?
