I always thought it was funny that if a goalie of significance was benched at an important time... and the backup came in and played well... everyone immediately jumped on incumbent starter... thinking his career was over

does anyone think Kopitar is on the way out in LA?

Goalie play is about who is "hot", who is "on their game"... you should have 2 goalies that are capable... what pittsburgh did with Fluery/Vokoun is what every team should do... (but for a million or 2 less)

If Bryz is bought out in Philly, I wouldn't be surprised to see them make a run at Miller.

Keep Briere for another year/run, get Miller for 50%, solidly defense and you never know with that team.

Philly is "THE" team with the balls to take the Miller chance. GM isn't afraid to roll the dice, that's for sure....

True - with the firing, it would suggest that Shero doesn't share the same opinion. But if Bylsma remains, one would think that Shero agrees with him about Fleury.

Seems clear the Hawks have zero need for Miller. Pens, Flyers, Coyotes and maybe the Islanders? (It's like a bat-signal for Crew ).

Retaining salary would be very beneficial, especially to a team like the Isles.

Initially, the Coyotes seemed like a destination for that very reason. It could be a boon for the Isles or even the Pens if Bylsma pulls his head out of the sand with MAF.

Agreed, should be interesting to see how it unfolds.

Curious: assuming you'd be in favor of Miller to the Islanders, what would be your ballpark offer?

I've seen pretty awful proposals back when I used to lurk the boards, with Buffalo - Pittsburgh. Pens aren't getting rid of MAF at the moment I don't think.

Somewhere in the West is good for Miller. Darcy won't trade him in the East.

Given the glut of goalies out there it may be a 2nd + a player. The Isles dont have a 2nd.

Buffalo would offer:

16 + miller for 15 + Niederreiter/another young player

I think it may be a bigger deal.....something like:

16 + Miller + Stafford for 15 + Niederreiter + conditional 2014 pick 2nd that could be a 1st

If Miller isn't going to re-sign? Yeah, I think so.

Fairly irrelevant since next year there won't be an East and West. Basically any team not in our division next year (Current plus Detroit, Florida, Tampa) is open to trade with without fear of it keeping you out of the playoffs.

I forgot about the realignment.

But, yes that's what I meant Miller will be traded to a team that won't interfere with Buffalo making the playoffs. (Which won't happen anytime soon with this rebuild).

Miller can get hot with another team and that won't be good for us.

Miller only has 1 year on his contract and then can sign with any team he wants, so if Buffalo cares about what team it trades him to it'll backfire.

Maybe Miller will sign with us? Highly doubt it though. He like Vanek, wants a taste of a Championship.

I honestly don't know, Miller has one year left and his salary is high. But we need a better goalie, Nabby was a beast down the stretch, like a real beast but in the playoffs he was worse than Fluery. Had we had Miller I think we could have beaten Pittsburgh. Seriously.

What I do know is that the Isles have a need in net and with RW's.

Garth has a large stable of prospects, very large. With that makes certain guys expendable and makes future draft picks available.

I'm not a big fan of trading this years first since we don't have a second rounder but am open to prospects and picks. Strome, Nelson, Donovan and Reinhart are my four no goes. Niedereitter is someone who will likely be moved for either a winger or goalie so maybe Niedereitter?

Don't know aboutyour org. needs but with Nielsen signed on, Strome, Nelson and Cizikas all there we can afford to trade Sundstrom. de Haan is another guy available IMO.

I don't know if you Isles fans would go for this but: is Okposo or Grabner up for trade?

The biggest need for Buffalo is probably defense. Any good D prospects in the organization?

The doubt of Dubnyk being a legitimate #1 goalie appears to be heating up in Edmonton, I'd add the Oil as another legit Miller landing spot.

No, not at all. Not saying we couldn't be better there but with the likely trade of Vanek, this team has no legitimate top 3 forwards. That is the biggest need.

The problem is, is Edmonton on Miller's list of teams he won't go to?

Especially as he's playing for a new contract. Better to stay in Buffalo and blame any failings on the "rebuild," rather than venture into uncertain territory backstopping a young and volatile Oilers squad.

Well, who knows really? Especially if Vanek goes could EDM really be much worse of an option? Maybe he wants out bad enough to take the risk that the Oil improve under Eakins or that they acquire another D-man or two. Plus he would get a little bit more time on the west coast for whatever it's worth, probably not anything significant but maybe he likes the idea.

Miller + Stafford + 16 for Paajarvi + 7?
I admit I do like Paajarvi
Ensures a combo of Lindholm/Monahan/Nurse/Risto
