Gryba's hit should not even be a penalty

Eller clearly touched the puck, Gryba's elbow did not come up, Gryba did not leave his feet, there was no head contact (at least from the replays on TV), and the hit was not too early or late.

It's only called because it's Gryba and the pool of blood.

Didn't even look like the was contact with Eller's head, imo. It just snapped back.

That was unbelievable. I hate how the refs are "reactionary." Oh there is blood? Must be a major and a game!

The blood came from his face hitting the ice. Gryba hardly hit him.

well from most angle you think he directly hit the head at first i though he hited him whit the elbow, just saw another angle where you see him hit the Chest, well look like its was the best angle for the hit not the ****** RDS continue to show, ill look more replay, The puck was there debate control or not ok fine. might be blindsight too ok but hit the head from the angle saw, totaly not.

Really feel bad for Eller, but don't think it deserved 5. Don't blame the refs though. I would have called that as well if I saw the pool of blood.

Reactionary penalties shouldn't be allowed at all.

The view from behind Gryba shows that Eller is hit on his arm.

Guys., I hope you`ve figured this out by now. When anybody plays against the HABS, your playing against the refs at the same time, its the league policy! so your short handed right off the bat., this has been going on for years!!! Ask the Hawks, Bruins, Red Wings, Rangers, Leafs. 26 cups my ***

I really do feel bad for Eller. it was an ugly injury. But there was no penalty at all and the call was completely based on the pool of blood. i kinda find it funny that the flop caused the injury when his face hit the ice

Understandable call from the refs. They don't have the benefit of replay like we do.

True. Being in MTL helped as well.

Kerry Fraser and the TSN panel all beleive that it was a good clean hit.

5 min for Interference is a joke.

I don't think it was a flop. Anyone that has ever played a contact sport will tell you if you get clocked by a big hit and get the wind knocked out of you, your body stops working for a bit.

There was no way once that happens that you are going to be able to brace yourself before you hit the ice.

I think the Sens made it a non-issue by coming back and winning the game. Great leadership allowed them to come out composed for the third and take control.

It's much easier to swallow now that the game is over (and ours). I don't necessarily blame the refs too much because I thought it was possibly a bad hit when it happened live. It wasn't until subsequent replays that I clearly saw that it was a clean hit. From the live play I would have made the same call.

I wish Eller all the best and a quick recovery.

This. The referee that made the call owes Gryba an apology. Not some weak ass crap from a text either. Face to face, man to man.

Why? It was a clean hit. He doesn't need to change because he did nothing wrong.

Someone just told me that Eller was unconscious before hitting the ice and that you can tell by the way he fell.

I've been hit like that and been a former ref at a high level. It's called 95% of the time. At that speed, with how it looked it was definitely a major. Refs don't have the luxury of slow-mo replays. Gotta call it as it happens. It looked dirty as hell.

I would have called the same penalty pretty much. Not interference though. Hitting to the head, probably.

If he stops making big hits then what's the point of having him in the lineup. From what I have seen he's not much of a puck moving D. Having him in the lineup next game might draw some penalties.

From one of the angles behind the Habs net it looked like Gryba's shoulder clipped Eller's chin, possibly due to Eller moving to dodge the hit before, but it's hard to see the angle so I can't be certain.

I don't think a penalty was ridiculous there, and I don't think a game suspension would be ridiculous either.

Garry Galley's initial description of it was absurd, though. I don't know if he's affected by the atmosphere but he had Habs coloured glasses on all game.
