I thought Ovie was playing decent. He was running over our players like a madman and scored a basic Ovie goal. He is clearly the best player in the series.

Like I said, you don't need to be built to hit.

He's clearly the best player in any series he's in unless he's going against the Pens. The guy is a force and a generational talent. It takes a team effort to shut him down, but I think this team is capable of doing it over 7 games.

Also, I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "you don't have to be built to hit" - Ovie is huge. 6' 3" and 230. For comparison, Callahan is 5' 11" and 190.

Meh, I'd hope a guy his size with his explosiveness could freight train a player of Cally's size on occasion. His hits were just hits, they weren't hits that wore us down or intimidated us.

On a side note I have to imagine that GIF is like hockey porn for you.

Yeah and I think he didn't even play to his full capabilities in game 1. Same with Ribeiro and Backstrom, both invisible. That first game is shades of 2011 series, where scrubs like Chimera went HAM on us.

People here were poking at Ovechkin's physique, calling him round and fat. The physique doesn't really matter that much for hockey players.

Disagree. He is destroying players on the forecheck.

Disagree. He's trying to separate heads from bodies and taking himself out of the play at the same time, how many times did he miss checks on McDonagh and Girardi.

I didn't see him miss many checks. He forced the two defenseman to do very stupid things on the ice. See McDonagh's penalty.

He was pretty quiet outside of their PP. But hey I'm sure you just wanted to post a gif of someone knocking Callahan over.

That's one example and it was a pretty weak call IMO, especially in the playoffs. He missed several checks because McDonagh and Girardi knew he was coming, he connected on several too but I think they are pretty strong mentally (as far as not getting pissed and retaliating, something OV does). Not going to disagree with you that he is effective at times, but he also gets a little carried away, not my style I like a little more tact personally.

didn't really notice those missed checks. whatever. even if he did, he keeps the defense playing tentative, soft, 'mistake free' hockey.

#NYR Also, Tortorella confirmed a healthy player will return regardless of conditioning level, "because if we don't win, we're done."
What a tool.

I didn't see that from them for the first 30 minutes, but I agree the whole team took a collective step back the 2nd half of the game, needed to keep our foot on the gas and we didn't. Think that has more to do with not wanting to take another penalty than anything the Caps did.

People here said he was fat and sorta implied that he wouldn't be effective throwing his weight around.

hockey is 60 mins game.

Ovechkin wore down the defense early, causing them to make dumb mistakes due to fatigue.

But I really don't agree with that, I don't think they were worn down. I really doubt that 10 minutes of Ovechkin is going to wear McDonagh down considering he played 50+ against this team last season. I think you are overstating the effectiveness of Ovechkin.

I agree, Ovechkin had little to do with it. It was mental lapses that they've been prone to all season.

As unpopular as it is to have any amount of faith in the team that we're supposed to be here discussing, many Rangers didn't play to their full capabilities either. In fact, I'm not sure any of them did aside from maybe Hagelin. Also, I don't think a single cap went HAM on us. Not even close.

And yeah, people making fun of OV's body never really made sense to me. Not everyone has the same composition. His gut/lower stomach area may be more prominent than some other people's, but you can be sure that he's in peak physical condition like almost all NHL players. I'm in good shape, obviously not NHL shape, but I've seen pictures of myself where I look like a fat slob too. Pictures can be deceiving.
