That Phaneuf rumour is an interesting one.

Only one year left on his current deal. If the Leafs want to part with him, so be it. But there has to be a window to negotiate an extension and/or a conditional pick as a major chunk of the deal based on him signing. 2014 1st if he re-signs?

Phaneuf as a one-year rental would be a great addition for a team looking for that one piece to be contenders. Don't think the Oilers are in that position.

They're not, but I'll be honest; if MacT has an opportunity to bring in a hometown guy that could be a big part of the defensive core with one year left, he has to take a stab. Pending UFAs don't have nearly as much value as people think, so I don't think the price will be too high.

Take a flyer, because if you look at the division we're in next year, more talented physicality on the back end won't hurt.

I'd be fine with bringing in Phaneuf (can't believe I'm saying that) for a year to see how it goes. If our D prospects don't progress much in the next year and we still badly need a #1 d-man, then maybe we have to move one of our star forwards.

Leafs fans wanting Eberle for one year of Phaneuf are out to lunch though.

A pick and a prospect at the trade deadline is what I would be offering.

Bill Watters was llooking for another excuse to bash Phaneuf, so he made the rumour up on an interview on the radio. There's basically nothing to the rumour but it gives us something to talk about this week.

I think Kyper mentioned Edmonton as a possible destination for Phaneuf as well. The asking price would be too high but if Edmonton could do it for a first and a prospect or a pick and Nick Schultz than I would be all over it.

I would do Hemsky straight up for half the players on their roster, and a lot of other rosters too. Nobody wants him.

I hadn't heard that. I thought this was just a Watters barf. I'd be in favour of picking up Phaneuf if the price was right, but I have a hard time believing there is much to all of this.

That $6.5M price tag is waaaaay too steep for the type of player coming back.

Sure he's a pending UFA, but what are the odds he's going to take a pay cut to stay? So there go the assets you traded for a one-year rental of Dion Phaneuf, gone.

If we're inquiring about a top-pairing defender, how about getting a top-pairing defender? Brian Campbell comes to mind, once again.

not much else happening around here
I dont see many needs on TOR roster..
They seem set on wing with Kessel, JVR, Lupul, Clarkson, Kulemin, Orr etc..
set on C with Bolland, Kadri, Bozak, Colborne etc..
I anything they need a RD since Phaneuf, Gardiner, Gunnarson, Reilly and Fraser are all LDs. Franson and Liles be the RDs.

I would do N.Schultz + 1st for an unsigned Phaneuf.

If I am TOR I would ask for Petry.

Love it. The ONLY reason we dislike him is because we hated him as a flame. And sometimes he is a meathead. Honestly, he is exactly what we need.

I would resign him 7 years. 6.5 6.5 6.5 5.0 4.5 4.5 4.5 for a cap hit of 5.43. In 3 years we have

Phaneuf JShultz
Klefbom Nurse
XXX XXX

wow.

I also think we could get him for less than our 1st.

NShultz Hemsky (retained salary) Prospect not named Marincin/nurse/Klefbom

It came from a guy with no current connection to the leafs, and then was picked up by the less than reputable blog/twitter crowd. And then a poster here with no record of breaking news claimed he had a source that said the Oilers were looking at Phaneuf. So not a lot of good reputable claims on this. You'd think Dreger would be spamming twitter trying to drum up a market if the leafs were thinking of moving Phaneuf, but stranger things have happened.

I am not against adding him and seeing if someone can smarten him up a bit. But leafs fans would not like my highest offer.

umm Ference and Smid would still be under contract in 3 yrs. If we picked up Phaneuf or another top pairing LD we would have Smid down on the 3rd pairing and Klefbom down in minors. Should be fine for a year or so but cannot last for longer than that.. We will be forced to move one of Smid or Klefbom assuming Ference stays.

the only thing i would do is Hemsky for Phaneuf straight up....but like you said they dont need that..unless he plays 3rd line for them like he would be for us if hes not moved....we still need to sign a 3rd line winger....the only likely winger on UFA that i see here is Raymond.

Raymond-Gordon-Hemsky

I killed the numbers. They're getting a little out of hand, and the start of a new offseason back in June probably should've reset the numbering anyway IMO.

Aww man I wanted to see how high we could get! Our high number of trade threads allow us to assert dominance over other fans!

So the main board is saying Ducks likely to sign Penner.

Shame, we really could have used him.

Penner might have been useful but there was no chance he was coming back

At least this kills the Penner talk

Not a fan of Roman Numerals eh? This was the first chance that I've had to use them in a long, long time and now you've taken that away from me!
