A. Bruin fan, and to preface, Andy Ference earned the 1 game suspension...while I would've hated it, I could see 2.
B. This suspension is pure ********. It's a clean, LEGAL, open ice hit where the primary contact isn't the head. What an awful result, to be sure and no one, including a Bruin fan, wants to see Eller injured and I hope he doesn't miss significant time recovering. Regardless, I can find NO hockey related reason why this should result in a suspension. The basis for a suspension in this case has to be based in political/PR reasons. It has to be. I don't even understand otherwise.
Before this, I was hoping for a nice, long, drawn out series of intense hockey where the Sens would prevail. Now....I want to see a beatdown where the Senators sweep the Habs in the most embarrassing way possible.
Firmly in Sens corner for the next week....Go Sens Go indeed.
It's very telling that Dustin Brown hasn't gotten anything for clear intent to land a knee-on-knee and at the same time trying to throw an elbow to the face of the Blues player last night. But a messy public incident with blood? 2 games. Shanahan is just a league shill.
He has to at least come up with a statement justifying why this is a suspend-able offence.
In the future, they will look back on hits like this for a frame of reference to see whether players should be suspended or not.
To me, the rules they made do not line up with the video evidence.
Seems like they look at the brutal aftermath and punished accordingly.
