Thread got closed, but general consensus in this pole is that the NHL was wrong to suspend Gryba.

Of the 13 posters who thought it was a suspendable hit, it's obvious by their names a few are either Habs, Leafs and Ranger fans.

This has to be a political decision, because consensus amongst hockey writers and analysts was that this was a clean hit. You RARELY see consensus like this....
You're ******* right it's political. But if it was PK Subban who made the hit (or Erik Karlsson) you can bet your ass there wouldn't be a suspension.

I guess it's true what they say.... The french are indeed backwards.
You can say whatever you want about the suspension, but there is no need to start a language debate. That's just plain stupid.

I like how they took nearly all day for a repeat offender in Ference but take 2 minutes to make this call. Unbelievable. Shouldn't be a suspension if there is one then it should be 1 game not 2

Habs fans are hilarious. Reading the mainboards and they're saying everyone is dumb because no one agrees with them..

NO ONE AGREES WITH THEM BECAUSE THEY'RE ALL WRONG.

Also, found this on the Habs board

Not sure if he's making fun of him because of his likeness to a walrus, and think Prust is really creative for coming up with that nickname, but we've been calling him the Paulrus since day 1.

Keep in mind the title: "Rule 48 Legal Hits Examples"
And all of those 100% NHL approved legal hits are WORSE than Gryba's hit by a mile.

Both hilarious and very very sad.

The last thing people want to see is big hits in the playoffs. Wrong!! Shanny should be fired before he ruins the market for nhl hockey.

Its the same fan base that denied Gionta hit Reimer in the head and we all know what happened there

Bullocks man, straight bullocks.

Ference (a repeat offender) gets a game for an intentional elbow.

Gryba (a clean player) gets a 2 game suspension on a first time offence that was more of a freak accident then anything, with no intent to injure.

NHL is jokes man

is this incident going to result in a police investigation, a la Chara on Pacioretty?

Wow, ALL of the hits in that video are worse than Gryba's and it's not even close. So the NHL blatantly goes against their own rule book. Disgusting and a total sham.

city of montreal probably called the NHL and insisted on a suspension to prevent riots.

A. Bruin fan, and to preface, Andy Ference earned the 1 game suspension...while I would've hated it, I could see 2.

B. This suspension is pure ********. It's a clean, LEGAL, open ice hit where the primary contact isn't the head. What an awful result, to be sure and no one, including a Bruin fan, wants to see Eller injured and I hope he doesn't miss significant time recovering. Regardless, I can find NO hockey related reason why this should result in a suspension. The basis for a suspension in this case has to be based in political/PR reasons. It has to be. I don't even understand otherwise.

Before this, I was hoping for a nice, long, drawn out series of intense hockey where the Sens would prevail. Now....I want to see a beatdown where the Senators sweep the Habs in the most embarrassing way possible.

Firmly in Sens corner for the next week....Go Sens Go indeed.

/out.

It's very telling that Dustin Brown hasn't gotten anything for clear intent to land a knee-on-knee and at the same time trying to throw an elbow to the face of the Blues player last night. But a messy public incident with blood? 2 games. Shanahan is just a league shill.

Not surprised by the suspension. It is Montréal vs Ottawa. We all know for who the NHL roots for.

It looked like a rerun of Cowen vs Skinner. Same situation, suicide pass from a teammate.

In my opinion, if Subban does not try to hurt Pageau after trying on Neil maybe Gryba does not take a shot at Eller.

He has to at least come up with a statement justifying why this is a suspend-able offence.
In the future, they will look back on hits like this for a frame of reference to see whether players should be suspended or not.

To me, the rules they made do not line up with the video evidence.
Seems like they look at the brutal aftermath and punished accordingly.

This is an easy suspension for Shanaban to make.

Unknown player, call it a "headshot", tell your boss you've enforced 'player safety' and are 'eliminating headshots', and get your pat on the back.

Thats embarrasing. 2 Games for a clean hit, Shanahan is ridiculous and inconsistent.
