Might be a mental thing with the finishing.

Perhaps if he could break the ice ... he scored 30 in the AHL this year.

Desjardins estimates that about 40% of the game is captured by Corsi analysis.

I'm ok with Liles out. There's not really room for him and Gardiner both in the lineup vs. Boston.

If liles is out imma be pissed! He is solid! Him and o'byrne were good together for the couple games they got. I'd go:

Gunnar-Phaneuf
Liles-O'Byrne
Gardiner-Franson

And for the love of god, give each line the minutes they can play!!!!

Leafs need to get their future defenders some playoffs experience.

Probably doesn't include O'Bryne, but if it is Gardiner or Liles in the line-up, at this stage of the rebuild I'll take Gardiner.

as long as gardiner is playing... i'll be happy with whatever our defensive pairings are.

i'm very concerned about what lines we go with on offence. i really hope frattin is in. i'd like to see colborne in too. hopefully MacA gets scratched along with one or both of our goons. hamilton could be good in there too in place of a goon.

i just hope carlyle realizes that any line that has komorov or Orr and even hamilton is going to have a tough time scoring goals. if i see kadri and komorov on the same line, i'm gonna be super pissed off.

JVR - Bozak - Kessel
Lupul - Kadri - Frattin

i just want this to be our top 6. i couldn't care less what the bottom 6 are. i suppose kuli instead of frattin works too.

You're trying to win the game. Sure they need experience and yes Gardiner should be in... but if this 'accountability' thing meant anything to Carlyle, Liles and Gardiner would both be in.

Frattin could return to form?

That would help the team, but he hasn't been good since the knee surgery.

You must have noted I bolded and underlined or?

I put the future of the team ahead of a veteran, offensive d-man who has less career ahead of him than behind him.

I have no expectations of this team going on a long playoffs run, so I'd get the futures as much experience as possible so the future and not the past is getting development.

If Franson can't go Liles and Gardiner in makes sense.

There is always room for guys who can transition the puck smoothly out of the D-zone to the neutral zone.

Why can't we have both of our best puck moving dmen in the game? Especially when the leafs sucked trying to get out of their own zone

If anyone saw the isles game yesterday, most of their d men are small and quick. They just skated back and scooped up the dump ins and made a nice pass or else cleared it quickly. Every d man doesn't have to be a beast. Lets just stop playing in our own zone.

Seriously Liles out? Oh my god. If you think big D is the answer to Boston you are wrong. We need guys who can get it out of the zone...

I agree; I didn't see much from the games he played. McClaren brought the same elements; but at least had intimidation.

Not true. It's a valuable skill, but Phaneuf, Gardiner, Franson leave a puck mover on every pairing, and big sexy is deceptively mobile for someone that big.

I personally would have liked the leafs to try:

Gardiner-Phaneuf
Liles - OByrne
Fraser -Franson

Fraser struggled game 1. But I think that had to do with him hitting 24 minutes. When he and Franson play a 18-20 they are a very strong pair.

Phaneuf has been able to play with everyone. Carlyle needs to get him on the ice more though. 23 minutes was ridiculous in game 1 with Fraser getting 24.

Gunnarsson I firmly believe shouldn't be playing. This is nothing against him, but you can tell he is playing hurt and the playoffs only made that more apparent. The injury has made him scared of sacrificing his body in any way which is a necessity in the playoffs. At this point OByrne/Gardiner would be more effective.

Exactly. Swapping Liles for Gardiner won't change anything, they bring the same skillset. Keep them both in but put them in separate D pairings, spread out the puck movers randy!

Carlyle is trying to prove that skating, stickjandling, passing, and shooting are all over-rated.

My Ideal D-pairings, and how long they should play (assume 60min game).

Phaneuf - Gunnarsson ~25min
Liles - O'Bryne ~20min
Gardiner - Franson ~ 15min

Gunnar is the only D-man Phaneuf seems to have chemistry with
Liles & O'Bryne looked good together, have chemistry and experience
Since Randy is concerned about Gardiner shelter him and Franson to 15mins, extra mins with PP time

It looks like we're doing a fine job beating ourselves if Liles isn't playing.

It's starting to look as if Carlyle's Cup was a fluke thanks to HHOF defenseman on his blue line..
