I have no problems with it. It gave the team an identity. We work hard and we come back. There's nothing wrong with that. We're also the 7th seed and was projected not to make the playoffs at all. I'm not sure how we're not the underdogs.
Coming home with a split is fine. Totally fine. We have taken home ice advantage.
We are pesky. But so are the Habs... so are the Isles... so is EVERY playoff team. You don't win in the playoffs without a lot of peskiness.
All we ever have is the next game and the next shift. So far in two games everything is fine. Both team are good. Both goalies can win games.
Habs missing 3 of their best forwards play great and beat us physically.
We can come hardcore in game 3 and win battles all over the ice and the game.
Playoffs rule. We have been playing in a playoff environment since Karlsson went down. All the season we faught over and over again to just survive.
We are used to this. And Anderson is a super stud.
I think we win in 6 or 7. We could lose and still play well. Last year the Rangers were so much harder to beat then these Habs. Not because the Rangers were better.... but because we are a lot better now. Even without Spezza and with a not quite 100% Karlsson (that still can play 27-30 mins a night)
Heres the deal: the fans label the sens pesky as a movement where we dont really expect to win. Like say we face Boston and we win, "Oh those pesky sens"
but if we lose, we always resort to: "Well, Karlsson is not 100 and Spezza so thats why". Its as if when we lose its like it was bound to happen cause of the riddled team.
What im trying to get at is to get a different mentality, a mentality that says that we are in it to win it, no excuses.
Hmmm I think you miss the point of the "PESKY" Sens. The pesky Sens won. Pesky is about winning... not hanging around and feeling good about losing but being close. Pesky means we hang around until we win. Pesky is all about winning. It means we don't do it like the Pens or Hawks... with the top talent and an almost inevitablitiy about it. We win... When Montreal has 50 shots.
I think pesky is ALL ABOUT no EXCUSES. We had no excuses as Benoit and Gryba and Borowiecki were on the defence. We had no excuses missing Karlsson. We had no excuses in some losing streaks that put us as low as 8th and on the verge of not making the playoffs. We faught back and won.
Being always on the verge of not being in the playoffs or being a good team... for almost the entire season... made us the pesky Sens. Winning games because Anderson or Lehner or Bishop stood on their head... made us the pesky Sens.
We are still the pesky Sens... nobodies favourites... but still alive and hey, we won home ice advantage in the first two game.
This is not your 2005, 2006, 2007 Ottawa Senators. We have to be pesky to win. We have a good roster but not a great one. We do have a truly great goalie.
Do you not get what PESKYSENS meant? What it means now?
^ Everything there was spot on. We are not favourites, we are underdogs (7th seed, after all) and we manage to keep winning. We win close games, we pull out 3rd period upsets, we bounce back from losses, we win despite injuries. Pesky means we always "hang around" and don't give up even with 30 seconds left. We're not the Penguins or the Hawks -- we win by one goal, not three, and we win by work ethic more than skill.
The mentality of this team is PERFECT. The mentality is that "we can play against ANYONE, and we do it by working hard." And it's done by 60 minute efforts. The worst thing they could do is start trying to think like they're a powerhouse team.
