Unless he puts on a lot of weight/muscle by training camp, I think he'd be best served with one more year of junior. With the type of game he likes to play (physical, with a chippy edge), he'd run the risk of injury playing at 180 lbs. next season.

If he could bulk up over the summer to 190 - 195 lbs., then all bets are off.

Not only that, but he's really come a long way in a short period of time with his development. It wouldn't hurt if he had another season of being a top player in juniors.

I think Bennett's a top 5 pick for sure, but something about him is offputting.

He's stiff? North and South speed is phenomenal, but he almost looks rough and jagged going in any other direction. It's as if he doesn't have much room laterally to beat guys if he doesn't outright blow by them.

I love his fire - he is a leader and dependable.

Bennett received a 5 game suspension. He's eligible to return on March 16th against Mississauga, which is Kingston's final regular season game.

Cross check to the face of (I believe) Peterborough's Clark Seymour in a game last week between the Fronts and Petes. Ironically enough, I don't think Bennett got called for a penalty on the play.

Ouch.

He really is a bit like Gilmour, isn't he?

I thought he received a double-minor for the cross check to the head?

Averages over 2.1 PIM a game, he needs to improve his discipline.

He is. He plays with a similar pitbull mentality.

You might be right. Maybe I was thinking that he didn't get a major or game misconduct out of a play that resulted in a 5-game suspension.

That's one of the areas he does need to improve upon. He takes a lot of abuse, so he's got to learn to turn the other cheek sometimes.

Craig Button has Sam Bennett going #1 in his mock draft. Kind of a shocker

Where do you see that? The one he has dated march 10th has him ranked 3rd

he did a top 5 player draft video.

Seemed a bit sketchy though. He's a huge Flame homer so of course he had Reinhart slide all the way to 5th to Calgary

Not sure he is so much a Flames' homer. Ken King essentially went over his head and hired Darryl Sutter as coach. Then he watched as his own contract was not renewed, and instead Darryl became the GM.

The only tie-in with the Flames org is that his brother - Todd Button - is director of amateur scouting.

Bennett is #1 to me, Ekblad #2...Reinhart/Dal Colle #3/4 depending on need, and Draisaitl #5.

If it's true that some teams have Draisaitl close to #1 on their list, Reinhart going #4 or #5 is absolutely plausible.

Reinhart to calgary seems pretty far fetched, the fact that it's button, makes it even more iffy

This guy reminds me of a Kesler type of player...maybe a Mike richards (but better) version.

Needs to improve his discipline but i LOVE his fire and speed...I want Buf to pick this guy over Reinhart. Let him play another year in juniors also to improve and I think he's got a bright future.

Anyone know much about his defensive game as a center?? You think he could be a kesler type of center in that way or is he more of an offensive threat and some what of a defensive liability?

He's definitely not a defensive liability. Bennett just needs more consistency in his defensive game. But when he's on (which is quite regularly), he's a puck hound, great on the back check and adept at lifting the stick and stealing the puck.

I don't think he'll be a Kesler type center, though. Kesler's bigger and probably more consistently physical. Bennett will throw big hits and finish his check, but I don't know if he'll do so as frequently as Kesler.

Try and remember Doug Gilmour's approach. The tenaciousness, that's Bennett's calling card.

That's the exact way I would draft them, I think Bennett's sheer will to win, makes him seperable from the others

As a sabres fan I'd be happy with either Bennett or Reinhart.

Bennett has that wow factor though that you like to see in a 1st overall pick.
