GAME 1 REVIEW
Quote:
CHICAGO -- For one period, the Chicago Blackhawks looked like a team that hadn't played in nearly a week.

For the next two Wednesday night at United Center, they looked the club that blitzed teams en route to the top seed in the Western Conference and a place among the favorites to claim the Stanley Cup.

Jimmy Howard withstood wave after wave of pressure from the Blackhawks, but eventually even a great performance from the Detroit Red Wings' goaltender wasn't enough.

Johnny Oduya and Marcus Kruger scored a little more than three minutes apart midway through the third period and the Blackhawks defeated the Red Wings 4-1 in Game 1 of this Western Conference Semifinals series.

"I thought it was our best game of the playoffs, no question," Blackhawks forward Patrick Sharp, who finished with a goal and two assists, said. "[Coach] Joel [Quenneville] can probably answer that better than I can. Personally, it was a tough start. Those first couple shifts the building was hot and the legs were a little stiff, but it was probably because we were for a week. I thought we played better as the game went on, and didn't have too many breakdowns out there."

Howard faced a flurry of shots after the Blackhawks looked a little rusty in the first period from the layoff after wrapping up their first-round series last Thursday. After just six shots on net in the first period, the Blackhawks peppered Howard with 27 in the next 28 minutes and eventually broke through.

I know I'm way early, but getting ready to leave work and won't be near a computer again tonight, and who knows when I'll wake up so I figured just posting it before I leave was the safest bet. Mods, feel free to lock for now.

EDIT: And then the game I was to ump was canceled so now all I'm doing is dicking around online. Go figure.

Hate the noon start. Thats reaaally early to start drinking when you have two small children. I'm sure it has to do with the Preakness being on NBC at 5 but come on. Couldn't we have had a 6:00 or 7:00 start?

Nice work with the GDT. Crawford's stats still worry me. Yeah a 1.27 GAA is great and all, but he let in too many soft goals. And that rebound he gave up on the Brunner goal was awful.

Too big of fan bases for NBC to have gone with another game in the early slot.

Hopefully the Hawks will come out strong again but keep their foot on the gas pedal. Even though the PK has been amazing, it'd be nice if they stayed out of the box. Early penalties ruined their momentum last game. I expect a better effort from Detroit and another solid performance from Howard.

The Hawks need to get better about taking penalties. I think they can get by the Wings but the LA will kill them if they keep taking dumb penalties. Last night the Kings scored 3 power play goals.

And that's a damn good San Jose PK, as well.

Only in America, do you have a big playoff game on Saturday at noon... and then leave early prime time without hockey. Stupid, if you ask me. I bet the players hate it as well.
As, as I suspected, all indications are Q sticks with the same line-up. More stupidity. By not icing our best team, Q is flirting with danger and shows a lack of respect for the opposition. In my opinion, this game is the most important one of the series for both teams. If Wings win, we go 6 or 7.

Nice job on the GDT.

It was pretty much ready to go for game 1, then I realized Hoss was doing his so I made some adjustments. Doubt I spent more than 30-40 minutes total on it.

A win would be nice. Would've preferred this game was in the evening, but I don't mind the afternoon start either. As long as the defense and goaltending are as effective as they were in game 1, the Hawks will be fine.

And only in Canada does the government own the TV network with rights to the majority of the playoffs. Stupid, if you ask me.

It's beyond stupid. This series in Canada at least should be on TSN by Chris Cuthbert who's one of the best in the biz. Bob Cole calls these games in his rocking chair. He's awful he can never remember who the players are and after a guy scores it's "they score or he scores" 10 seconds later he looks up the number and figures out who he is. Odd number rushes are so confusing for him as well.

Emerick is beyond annoying, Gary Thorne wasn't great all the time but he had a cool voice when ESPN did hockey.

Have a few homebuying errands I need to take care of before the game, so I'm getting up early tomorrow.... boo.

Oh well, should have more than enough time to get home to watch us hopefully spank the Wings.

going to the game tomorrow. Visiting from Minnesota. I am currently in Mount Prospect. What time should I leave here to get to the UC about 11:00-11:30? Been awhile since I've had to go through the city (4 years to be exact) Any tips (parking specifically) anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated!!!

The game starts at 12, you need to plan there around 11:15 A.M depending where you are parking. I would leave around 10 just so you don't chance it, one idiot can jam everything up. Worst case is you get there early.

I'll be at West End at 10:30 before heading to the game. Strange, it will feel like I'm pre-gaming for a baseball game. No berg?!?1 ****!!!

I would plan to wake up by 9:00 and be out the door no later than 10:15. Leaving at 11:00 us definitely way too late.

You can park for free in either of the 2 places circled. The circle to the right is Billy Goat. They have a decent sized gravel lot. Get there early, at least an hour and a half before hand to ensure a spot.

Jackson St., at the bottom, is free to park on as well if you can find a spot. I'm sure there are other spots, but these are my go tos.
