Should the Canucks blow it up

If they get swept or even just lose in the first round of the playoffs?

They should probably do the reasonable thing and try a coaching change first. There's no reason a team built like they are should be struggling to make it out of the 1st round annually. Up fronts Sedins for primary scoring + Kesler for secondary scoring and defensive minutes + Roy for tertiary scoring + a solid d-core + 2 goalies that are both better than a lot of teams' starters.

Try it with a new coach first. AV's system reminds me of Torts. That's not a good thing.

Of course AV seems like more of a players coach and doesn't run his team like the chairman of a communist dictatorship, but still...

AV seems a lot like Tom Renney to me.

Start with the most overrated GM in history. For fans of other teams, Mike Gillis took over this team 5 years ago and just bashed the prospects and young players we had and questioned everything Nonis and Burke had done... FIVE years later:

Sedin Sedin Burrows
Hansen Kesler Raymond

6 main forwards we rely on(hint: this is why we're down 3-0) all here when Gillis(the genius) arrived.

Same with Bieksa and Edler on defence.

Same with both goalies, Luongo and Schneider, 10 million spent on goaltending that is supposed to be great, well Gillis didn't bring either in.

AV, coach of the year in 2011 blah blah blah, already here, Gillis hasn't even had to hire a coach in 5 years.

Point is, he's brought in a lot of trash. He gave up a first round pick and Grabner for Ballard who has been a healthy scratch for every playoff game so a kid that was playing in the OHL 4 weeks ago can play.

Gillis has been HORRIBLE since the 2011 trade deadline, literally done nothing to give us a chance to make another long playoff run. Higgins hasn't scored in 17 playoff games and got a 4 year extension. Kassian is a grinder... come on.

This guy is so overrated, I don't even trust him with a rebuild, his idea of a top 4 D is Ballard, his idea of a top 6 winger is Freaking David Booth. Both traded for, both about to be bought out.

But thank God for super forward prospect Jordan(the midget) Schroeder.

Yeah exactly, kind of like Torts because he also can't run an offense, but not angry all the time

AV is a huge players coach.

Anyways yeah, might as well see what a new coaching staff does for this group. If they don't get out of the first round next year then changes to the personnel will follow, probably starting with the two UFA twins.

In some cases yes, some no.

The way he leaves Lu out to dry and plays favorites would suggest otherwise, but then again his incredible devotion to veterans (regardless of how they are playing) does back up that idea.

Powerhouse teams don't blow up. They just retool. Big problem is I can't imagine them unloading the Sedins for a fair price because of the cap constriction.

The Canucks haven't played like a powerhouse for a year and a half.

Shame the blues fell apart down the stretch last year. Losing the presidents trophy might have made it more obvious just how awful they have been.

They needed to address the circus that is their goalies well over a year ago. Once they lost the in the cup finals, that was the time to make a clean break.

Their GM should be fired ASAP, I am not a fan of the Canucks by any stretch. But either goalie would have returned a key player or some depth.

They had deals for Roberto, but they wanted more and were greedy. Get some players back and dump the contract. Good grief if they buy him out. Least they will have some cap space.

Pick a Goalie, stand be-hind him.

Their goalie situation is undoing all the good work in putting the team together.

I wouldn't blow it up yet. AV and Gillis definitely need to be fired though.

and how do you assume that will change anything without changing the players?

sure it might give them a wake-up call, but it won't change the fact that we are 2-13 in our last 15 playoff games

even if we see a 100% improvement in the playoffs, that gives us 4 - 11... not gunna get it done

Yeah. The team needs a change. A team this talented shouldn't be losing in Round 1 yr. after yr.

No. But they have to make some changes.

New coach
buyout some guys (Booth in particular)
Bring in some grit, powerforward
Trade Scheider or Lou

Need to get rid of coaching staff and trade some of that D for Offense(Edler or Bieksa)

Give that a season, if they dont make playoffs or get knocked out in 1st round, then blow it up(Burrows,Bieksa/Edler, Twins gone)

Just trade Schneider. I've been saying to forever. He get can you the pieces you need to make you a legit contender. Luongo is just as good and you have him locked up to a solid cap hit for a bunch more years.

I've always thought that if Bishop could bring back Conacher and a pick from Tampa, what would Schneider have returned?

Regarding the potential 'blowup', I'd say fire Vigneault, see what happens next season, and if the result is the same, then blow it up. Completely.

They should blow up the management and coaching staff. I don't think the team is that bad, but they could use some tweaks and a new coach though.
