I think Clarkson is a top 6 forward who the Leafs should try to acquire. On top of his physical presence, he is a 20-30 goal guy who'd be excellent beside Kadri. However, we should not be overpaying for his services.

Something like this would work... only barried liles cause I dont know how to trade him away on cap geek... Really think Weiss is our #1C next year
Sign Kostka for cheap. We can eventually trade him for a peak. He is a victim of a system that our players don't often buy.
As for centres, I don't want Weiss, period. That need isn't that critical and it's not like he'd compliment Kessel at all. In fact, if Kadri wants to gel with Kessel, he will have to finish those plays. In other words, we need a finisher in the middle.
$5.5 million! No way it will handcuff us if a good center becomes available and we wont be able to resign Kessel either.Let Macarthur go and sign Clarkson, sure but a reasonable price.Taking away from NJ while Brodeur ages,I like.
Like a few of you guys, I see some a lot parallels between Armstrong and Clarkson and certainly none between Gary Roberts and Clarkson. Starting with their position and anticipated salary demands to the roll they're expected to play on this team. The difference is that Clarkson is better suited for this team than Armstrong was (despite our record when he was in the line-up) but only marginally. I don't think Carlyle would be able to put up with his brain farts in the neutral zone and realistically, he would probably end up riding the pine much like Armstrong did. If he's down for 2-year deal around $3.5 million, I would bite the bullet and hope that he fits in nicely with McClement and Komorov or Grabovski (assuming he's still here) and Kulemin.
idn why people are so concerned with over paying... nonis wont. Plus we never know what can happen, it has all the potential to be a lupul like wake up. As long as this team keeps stocking up on people who have the potential to score while playing a strong overall game, the team will continue to get better and better. Playoff teams always have multiple people who can put the puck in the net, and this would be a good signing!
Is it a foregone conclusion that he'll even leave Jersey?
He would not have a career without Peter DeBoer, he was acquired for cash in the OHL by Deboer, thats how low his stock was and despite being undrafted, DeBoer developed him into an NHL caliber player. I'd kind of think he'd want to stay with DeBoer.
Jesus Christ, Dreger don't you have anything better to write about?
There is a playoff series going on here. Shut up. Right now I don't care what your cousin is going to do in July.
Actually I do. I was trying to find some info on exactly this topic regarding Clarkson just yesterday. Don't really see the big deal in reporting it.
Maybe Dreger is doing Nonis a favour by letting it be known that he is interested in Clarkson - not a bad time to let the cat out of the bag wiht the Leafs in the midst of a playoff series - Clarkson is at home spectating.
