Thorntons wingers- ideas ?

Was just thinking about options on the first line as far as wingers for Joe.

I submit that he will "elevate" the play/ production of most any decent winger he skates with.

Guerin, Murray and Knuble have all had career numbers (goals) alongside Joe.

With that said, I wonder if putting a Huml, Samuelson or Bergeron (whoever) with Joe and Knuble would be a viable option to spread the scoring "wealth".

A possible second line of Zino, Murray and Sammy could emerge if the first line was altered somehow. Any thoughts ? -Piels

I like the idea but, I would think that he would need at least Sammy or Murray with him...Assuming Zino is second line center...

Sammy-Thornton-Knuble
Huml-Zino-Murray

Is Knuble going to be a top two line player this year?? I think that they should keep the Knuble-Thornton-Murray line together but understand that it would leave the second line a little short on talent. Is Zino going to be on the opening day roster for sure? I had heard problems of him getting over here and that he might not be ready for the start of the season. Assuming Zino isn't ready then what do things look like. Also are both Knuble and Murray right wingers this year meaning there is no chance of the Knuble-Thronton-Murray line being reunited????

I also like the idea, but there is no way i would split up Joe and Murray, those guys built a very strong chemisrty last year, they know where eachother are going to be and so on. I would however like to see a new face up because it takes so much pressure off who ever it is playing on a line with Joe.
Here is what i would do...
Huml - Thornton - Murray
Sammy - Zino/Bergeron(who ever earns it) - Knuble
Either way as soon as we get on a PP, we become unstoppable!!!

Well, given that zino's been practicing all week and played in last night's game, I'd say he's all set now.

Personally, I'd go with this:

Knuble - Thornton - Murray
Samsonov - Zinovjev/Hilbert - Lapointe/Huml
Axelsson - Rolston - Samuelsson
Grosek/Zamuner - Stock/Donato - McCarthy

Given that both Sammie and Jumbo Thornton tend to handle the puck a lot, I'd break them up.

I still believe that Sammie and his playmaking skills should be paired with Rolston.

Huml/Hilbert/warmbody - Thornton - Murray
Samsonov - Rolston - Knuble
axelsson - Zino - Lapointe
Zamuner - Stock - Mccarthy

Let me give it a shot.

If Bergeron plays well enough where Management can't send him down:

Rolston Thornton Knuble
Samsanov Zinovjev Murray
Axelsson Bergeron Hilbert/Lapointe
Zamuner Stock McCarthy

Otherwise go with:

Knuble Thornton Murray
Sammy Zino Lapointe (Huml until Lapointe is ready)
Axelsson Rolston Hilbert
Zamuner Stock McCarthy

when Lapointe get's back figure out which of Huml or Hilbert to keep and slot Marty in the other's place.

Axe - Zino/Berg/Hillbilly - Zamuner
Stock - Grosek - McCarthy

Knuble-Thornton-Murray (why mess with a good thing?)
Sammy-Zino-Zams (should give Zams a shot, this line would be fast)
Axe-Rolston-Lapointe (always effective when Lapointe is healthy)
Grosek-Stock-McCarthy (S**t disturbers!)

If these lines faulter then Hilbert, Huml or Sammy 2 can be called up for a shot.

While I agree that Joe and Murray have great chemistry, I recall Murray getting 41 goals with Stumpel as a center too.

You guys came up with some interesting combo's I hadnt thought of.

I can understand why Joe, Murray and Sammy love playing together (and they'll obviously continue to skate together on the powerplay), but this team needs balanced scoring. All the Devils had to do in the playoffs was shutdown the first line...

IMHO Joe is an offensive threat all by himself. He should be shooting more and he needs wingers that can do the dirty work to get the puck to him...

I think this lineup would be effective:

Knuble - Thornton - Murray
Samsonov - Zinovjev - Huml (Lapointe)
Axelsson - Rolston - Samuelsson
Zamuner - Hilbert - McCarthy

That is really close to what I would say as well...at this point not knowng if Bergeron will indeed stay a while.

Knuble/Thornton/Murray - works why fool with it until it doesn't..

Samsonov/Zinovjev/Lapointe - looks good to me..Huml may be too weak a player to pair with those 2....maybe McCarthy or Grosek to start, until Lapointe is better.I also don't care much about Hilbert at this point, maybe just sick of waiting for something...anything to come from him.

Axe/Rolston/McCarthy - is my early pick for the so-called 3rd line...not sure how well Samuelsson plays his off wing????

Zamuner/Stock/Donato/Grosek - could be a nice little veteran 4th line with some talent.

..but I agree with the basic of your thinking/ideas about lines this early...if Bergeron was to stick then it would open up alot of options for sure.

I agree about the KTM line. They were one of the top lines in the league last year. While Samsonov is the best left winger, on paper, why break up a line that works so well despite that? Not sure about how well that 2nd line is going to work though.
