IMO your values are way off. Remember, he only has 1 year left. No player gets near as much as people think when they only have 1 year left. Take out Josi and the draft pick and I think that's a good starting point, value-wise. I have no idea what their needs would be though.

Again, I doubt Malkin would be for sale anyway.

I am not going to be shocked at anything Pittsburgh does in
the offseason. Two embarrassing exits in the playoffs lately will make teams do some interesting things.

We should be talking to them about trades, how can they afford Neal, Crosby, malkin, Kunitz, dupuis and iginla plus fleury and letang?

I'm not saying trade the fourth overall by any means at all! But we could work around other players I'm sure.

i'm reposting this from the prospects forum, but in terms of players i'd like to see the Preds look at in the later rounds:

Peter Trainor didn't even get drafted by a Q team, but you don't get 100 pts in the Q by being an also ran. smooth skater, hockey IQ and shooting/passing is good. improve his strength and i'd see him as a top 6 player.

emile poirier is stupidly underrated, as long as he continues to improve his skating he'll have a decent career.

Peter Cehlárik got overshadowed by Marko Dano but he's good. Youngest goalscorer in Luleĺ history. Not J20, SEL. Versus men. The type of player that gets picked in the 7th round by Detroit and turns into a 70-80 pts player. as long as he improves his skating, and i believe he definitely will, he'll be fine. i'm super high on this dude, i think he can be good, especially on a line with leipsic down the line.

I like the sounds if cehlarik, any more info or write ups??

Is he big body?? Imagine we for record breakers for youngest point/goal scoring leafs from tappara in barkov and SEL in cehlarik?!

I wonder if this guy is available with our third rounder?

I think these are players available even later than that. Remember, we have three 4th's, two 5th's, and two 6th's. Plenty of picks to find late round sleepers.

Only because we still have weeks until the draft...

Of the three latest NHL.com mocks, two have us getting Barkov, and one has Barkov going third and us grabbing Drouin.

I know you are all about Bark Maple, but if Drouin slips to us at 4, it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

Now what if things go crazy and it goes Jones/Mac/Nich. Barkov over Drouin then?

If you believe rumors of what McKenzie has said, one head scout has Barkov over both McKinnon and Drouin. So I guess it's 1/30 chance that it's Nashville

Barkovs injury is nothing to be concerned about.
Are you afraid rinne won't be himself ever again??

Predsdownsouth,

Yeah I do really like barks, but I would not be upset at drouin either, just really excited about everything about barkovs game!

Drouin for sure.

Being in the top four is awesome, we don't have to try to pick the best of top four or have to look back and know we should have taken the other one,
We just take whoever is left of the big four/five.

I am getting a bad feeling barkov may be taken above four...

Barkov does feel like a quick riser, but if you remember last year, who were the two big risers toward the end? Forsberg and Teuvo. Neither went top 10.

Remember all the talk of Teuvo being in the top 5 days before the draft?

Aren't Poile & Trotz trying to turn Wilson into a center?

He was drafted to play center. Trotz has mentioned the trust factor in past seasons that have kept him on the wing. His consistency this season engendered high praise from Trotz. If he remains consistent, I think he's playing center by the end of next season. That was Trotz's projection once the season began after the lockout.

"Aleksander Barkov could go number one." This video is from august 2012. Around 2011 Barkov started to show up in top 5 draft rankins. And I'm sure that on HFBoards he could have been there even 2010. Barkov is not a late riser. I would argue that actually Drouin has been more of a quick riser than Barkov.

Other thing is to compare Filip Forsberg and Teuvo Teravainen to Barkov and his achievements.

Filip Forsberg in his draft year had 0.4PPG pace in Allsvenskan a swedish second tier league

Teuvo Teravainen in his draft year had 0.45 pace in Finnish top pro league SM-liiga while having problems defensively.

Aleksander Barkov a year before his draft year had 0.5PPG in SM-liiga having team best +/- stats. Barkov in his draft year had 0.9PPG in SM-liiga while having the leagues best two-way game. And the league had Mikko Koivu (although we can talk about his commitment to give his best) playing there.

You are comparing apples to something that isn't even a fruit.

Drouin was definitely the quick riser of the two. Playing alongside Mackinnon and having a breakout sophomore year helped Drouin be picked up on the radar
