Hmm...maybe PL was getting desparate.

Another was COL sending 4 1st round picks for the 1st overall pick (rights to Lecavalier) in 1998.

Based on COL's choices, the Lightning would have gotten Tanguay, Skoula, Regehr, and Parker (although I'm sure they would taken someone else).

To Habs
Kovalchuck

To Thrashers
Garon or Theodore
7th overall
25overall
Markov

I`m still torn between who was actually better off for not making the trade. Atlanta keeps one of the best young snipers in the game. Montreal gets 2 very good young defenceman, plus a hart/vezina trophy winner. I always heard the trade was for Garon but the thrashers wanted Theo so they swapped the goalies at the last minute but atlanta decided to keep the pick. Can anyone verify this??

I guess the winner of this trade will have to be decided when Perezhogin and Komisarek are fully developed.

Back in the mid-90's there were rumors of Scott Stevens going to Detroit for Yzerman or to Pittsburgh for Jagr.
Can you imagine how different things may have turned out for all those teams had either of these deals gone down?

The Sabres and Canadiens talked about a blockbuster Gil Perreault for Guy Lafleur swap back in the late 70s.

Not sure if this has already been mentioned.

The Rangers trade to get Lindros back when he was drafted.

Tony Amonte, Alexei Kovalev, Doug Weight, either James Patrick or John Vanbiesbrouck, two first-round picks and $12 million US to the Quebec Nordiques for Lindros.

I posted something about it earlier in the thread. We were never able to confirm what the Rangers offer was. My searching came up with pretty much what you have listed, except that it included both Patrick and Beezer. I don't know if it's accurate or not. Once I do, I may start a thread in the poll board to see in retrospect, which would have been a better deal.

i remember a story coming out in detroit free press or windsor star (can't remember, both used to headline on the dearly departed faceoff.com...) aboot a trade made by ken holland with calgary but nixed by scotty bowman.

i think it was valeri bure (then a 35-goal scorer) for slava kozlov.

bowman said that because valeri's not a team player, he does not care aboot his other abilities, or something like that.

they still managed to get rid of kozlov, but i'd consider hasek a better return than v. bure!

Quebec didnt choose which offer they were taken. A judge decided that Philly's offer was better so the deal was done.

I'm not certain if this was the actual deal or not. My searching brought this up as the rumoured offer from New York. THere probably were draft picks thrown in there as well, but I'm not certain.

If it was the offer, it's pretty scary to think that maybe the Nordiques were pretty safe with either offer given to them.
can't argue with success, lindros was traded for the stanley cup - plain and simple. if there was an offer like this one from the big apple, the chemistry may not have been right in '94. intriguing, no? bacardi's last real kick at the can before selling to cablevision, i wonder if a booze merchant will ever again win the cup!

Only one of the players there was on the 94 stanley cup team.

True, but Amonte was traded for a couple of players on the team as well.

Amonte - traded to the Blackhawks for Brian Noonan

James Patrick - traded with Darren Turcotte to the Hartford Whalers for Steve Larmer, Nick Kypreos, Barry Richter

now admittedly, Beezer only fetched Doug Lidster, but i remember an interview with greg gilbert where he basically said that though they were leading the league management felt amonte had to go if they were to win a cup. chemistry is a funny thing.

Would they have still won the cup? I think it's at least a debatable point.

Want bad trades? We must not forget Rejean Houle's beauties...

Pierre Turgeon (in his prime), Craig Conroy (Selke candidate), and Rory Fitzpatrick (well, whatever)

for

Shayne Corson (past his prime) and Murray Baron (5th D-man at best)

People will disagree with me because I'm hypothesizing but those trades could have happened with or without Amonte, Patrick and Beezer.

I also think the character of the team would have been different with Lindros. It is debatable though.
