BIG rumour...but that's all as of now

APPARENTLY....and this is all relatively unsubstantiated, BUT, apparently Dustin Byfuglien has been traded to Saskatoon for Wacey Rabbit and a dman....this all just rumours I've read on another WHL board, but a couple other people in Saskatoon have "heard" these rumours too....as it stands...

To PG: Rabbit and dman

to Sask: Byfuglien and a 3rd in 2005(???) bantam draft....meaning, apparently it should be announced tomorrow morning? Who knows....like I said...all just rumours right now...

If there is nothing on this within a few days, I'll just delete it as I don't like spreading/making up rumours! lol

As am I...but I don't want to get my hopes up....yet anyways...like I said, I'm hoping it's announced tomorrow during the draft....when the Cats draft Beech...that's my thinking anyways.

I don't think there's much question Byfuglien won't be back in PG next season. It's well known that he doesn't want to be back.

Doesn't make much sense to me. A malcontent overager (in 05-06) for an 86-born legitimate first-liner who'll put up 70-80 points next year? Saskatoon's deep at forward, but it seems like they should be able to get more for Rabbit than this.

Well, it works in the sense that they'll be light on dmen apparently next year, and the fact that it has been stated that there would be some major changes coming in Saskatoon this offseason as far as players went.

I doubt Cougar fans would be complaining ONE BIT, as shown by Van and myself, if this deal came to fruition.

I let this thread go because I was going to post it myself. I was tuning into Saskatoon radio stations all day and didn't hear anything. But we'll see.

From a Saskatoon perspective, I like this trade. Rabbit has been on the trading block ever since Molleken arrived and he's the type of player that Lorne's trying to get away from. As for Byfuglien - he's exactly what they need. Losing Green is huge and have a big, offensive blueliner (in addition to an established goalie) is something they need filled through trade during the offseason.

Word is that other defenseman involved in this deal is Joel Eisenkirch.

If true, Saskatoon had better hope there's no NHL CBA because Byfuglien will be in the AHL if there is. Even as it stands he could sign an AHL deal with Norfolk. Incredibly risky move to deal your leading returning scorer for potentially nothing. I would have thought they could have returned a quality 86 or 87 born defender for a guy of Rabbit's stature.

I'll believe it when I see it, I guess.

I am assuming this is not happening being the draft is now over. I do not like the trade at all from a Saskatoon perspective. Why would they trade away Wacey for possibly nothing?

Nobody said they had to make the trade on draft day.

I would think that Rabbit would draw a lot more than overage Byfuglien who could easily be in the AHL next year. A deal like this would make more sense if it were Andy Rogers going to Saskatoon (value wise, I know Byfuglien is on the block and Rogers is not). Byfuglien also doesn't seem like the kind of guy Saskatoon would want as a team being potentially rebuilt - he just doesn't seem like someone to build a winner around.

as I understand it, trades can not officially be announced till after the playoffs are over.

Either way, it is just that, a rumor at this point.

The WHL announced the Slade-to-Vancouver deal today, which I believe was when the freeze on trades officially ended.

It's still rumour at this point.

As I stated, it was a rumour heard by Saskatoon fans....I haven't heard anyhting in PG, nor do I believe Van has....also...nothing has been confirmed.

I, now, can only wish it to be true....if it is...great. If not...then, well...that sucks....trade Byfuglien to someone else! lol...As far as I am concerned, the Cougars are better off without him!

Whats the problem with Byfuglien ..is he one dimensional?? I would think a d-man who pops 22 goals would be a hot commodity.I wonder why he didnt get selected to the US World Junior team ..is he a head case ???

That is true. I saw him play twice this year - he is an excellent player but he most definitely is fat.

He did take some of the weight off this year, at least. But he just doesn't seem motivated to do what a guy with his size and skill could.

If he is fat and still nets 22 goals ,ide take him on my team anyday and give him a lifetime supply of Slimfast ..if this guy ever gets in shape he may dominate the NHL like no defenceman since Coffey????

Byfuglien did take some weight off last summer and for the first part of this season, but by the end of the season, he had put most of it back on.

Byfuglien's problems can all be attributed to the fact that he is just a lazy kid. He doesn't have the necessary motivation to make it big time. He's had two full seasons in Prince George (after his first half-season) to prove himself, and he has not done so.

It's really a shame, because if he could just want to be better, he could have a very bright NHL future.

Ya well...there ya go....Byfuglien won't be in PG come September. That much is almost a 100% gaurentee...he basically came out and said so after the last game of the year. Whether he is traded, moves on to the AHL or decides to simply hold out, his days in PG are done for all intents and purposes.

I'd love to get a deal like the "rumour" that I initially posted. I'd even go so far as to say I'd do Rabbit for Byfuglien straight up.

He gained weight during the season? Wow. One of these years he's going to show up for camp weighing 300.
