does anyone really doubt that Yakupov would have ran away with this if over 82 games? would the Oilers trade Yak for any other rookie, after what we've seen in 48 games? not in a million years.

it may look close in numbers (only because of the short season), but Yak proved that he is, far and away, the best rookie of this year's crop, AINEFC. he will have the best career, he will be the most prolific player of this group.
all that matters is this season and Yak wasn't the best rookie far and away AINEFC is just crap, he got a hat trick against a lineup missing 5-7 legit NHL starters resting.

Maybe if Yak had scored a single freaking goal in March voters might have looked at him more but he went a whole month without a goal which really hurts his case.

As to the future stuff, just wait and see there are some really excellent players in this years group and it's quite possible that Yak will be a top 5 in the group but it's equally possible that he slips out of the top 5 as well.

There is nothing wrong with scoring goals in the final week. Besides, Yakupov's hattrick and the subsequent pounding the Canucks got set the precedent for the sweep. He should be given full marks for derailing the Canucks right before playoff time.

Either way, our consolation prize will just have to be rolling with Yakupov for the next 10 years. Oh darn. We'll look back on this and laugh just like we do for the Landeskog and Skinner Calders.

Why would you laugh at the Landeskog Calder? He deserved it pretty plain and simple.

He is actually exactly the type of player the Oilers could use to add to their talented core, hopefully you guys get lucky and draft a top Dman, gritty 2 way center or winger at 7 this year.

1:03 per game isn't a lot of PP time per game. When there is atleast 3-4 PP per game.

He is 55th among rookie for PPTOI/G.

20th among rookie for PPTOI with 50:19. He played 541:02 at ES and a great 3 seconds on the PK.

1 point out of 50 minutes. Not really good but its not like he didn't create anything either.

Galchenyuk did get powerplay time, but it was often only the last 15-20 seconds of the powerplay. Rarely did he get to play a full powerplay shift (and when he did, it was with his usual line, including the amazing Prust) and with the good powerplay point men. It's obvious that he's not going to score a lot when he's on at the end of a powerplay with amazing players like Bouillon at the blue line.

Anyway, it's in the past. He'll be great next year.

So Huberdeau's career will be laughed upon when he wins the Calder

So Huberdeau left yesterday for Chicago, which probably means he won the Calder. McKenzie mentioned it yesterday on TSN, so its probably true.

Bingo - western fans ripping on eastern journalists, without seeing the flip-side of the coin. Classic....

Huberdeau has at least a plausible case and good for him if he wins. I still do not understand, however, Saad getting nominated over Yakupov. Saad was propped up all season by having Toews and Hossa, two world-class players, on his line. Proof of this can be found looking at his playoff stats where he was removed from the top line - he is a minus player and only has one goal.

Huberdeau? All of the arguments against Yakupov apply to him too (winger, +/-, poor team performance)

Exactly. Probably because Yak is Russian. Anti-Russian bias.

Can't believe some Oilers fans still can't let go Landeskog winning the Calder.

Being an Oilers fan myself, it is a quite annoying seeing others still whining about that.

Does Eastern Conference bias really exist? I catch some Florida/Buffalo/Pens games most of the time and it's pretty cool, some I watch on those multiple NHL channels. Does anybody really catch Oilers/Flames/'Nucks on TV living on the Eastern side? Other than watching TSN of course.
