Lucic-Krejci-Chara....Can Chara become Dit Clapper version 2?

This might be an extreme thread so keep that in context. There is a lot at play when discussing Big Z and his minutes and role keep in mind he just put up 40 points, might be playing hurt, and even if he needs a little more rest is still relatively close to his best and worth his 7 mi.

Lets assume the worst defensively and hes slower though. Has to play the third pairing against lesser players or else he will get lit up like a XMas tree. And if its not the case now its the case in 3 years when he still makes 7 mil.

If thats the case can we play him as a power forward? Offensively his mitts are really nice in front of the net when he isn't fumbling a puck at the blue line and awkwardly rushing to get a shot or pass off before lanes close. His speed is probably better skating forwards than backwards. He can probably crush guys on the forcheck.

Chara is awesome as a forward on the PP. When he doesn't have to think about it his hands are really nice. Can get tons of steals with the reach. Think he can do good in Iggys role or play with the Swedes and create room and turnovers.

He is still a #1 defenseman.

He is a Norris candidate for ****s sake.

Just because he had a rough game or two after being driven into the ground does not change that fact. People need to give their heads a shake.

Hes slowing down. At some point he'll be either a turnstyle against top players or a sheltered 3rd pairing guy. (Meaning he'll need a defensive guy with him and not a Hamilton or Krug.)

Im not saying he is there yet just its coming and likely before that contract is up. I think his PP play has shown there's some potential at forward.

Chara will be fine next year if we just reduce his minutes and stick to it.

I honestly thought Chara played great, except for that one play in game 6 -- the Pacioretty breakaway.
