It's the usual teams every year in the pre-season.

I'd figure with detroit swinging over ..carolina would stay down with nash, wash etc and we would play detroit saving on travel 250 miles compared to 700 miles.

Exactly. And nothing gets me fired up for the season like a couple of back to back meaningless games against Columbus

Yup. The Columbus games have been chippy recently, at least.

We arn't playing back to back vs Columbus or Carolina even - those are eight days apart. We are playing back to back vs Toronto.

I'll be attending one of the pre-season games (Carolina or Columbus) and not attending the other two games (Toronto and Carolina or Columbus). I have already promised a fellow STHer my tickets to the Toronto pre-season game and I now have a great excuse for doing so. That Saturday night is "UFC 165-Jones vs Gustafsson" - which oddly enough will be taking place at the ACC in Toronto - and this UFC (and Jon "Bones" Jones) fan will either be at the event in person or be watching it at home on the telle.

Definitely getting tickets when COLORADO comes to town. Probably try and see all the high picks play since they will be cheap games, especially on Saturday stubhub.

So when would camp be starting? Maybe the 10th, or earlier?

Two weeks.

Per NHL.com: Training Camp Opens -- Wednesday, Sept. 11

I'm guessing report the 11th and on ice the 12th.

****

Also, McKee and Peters are doing the informal skate for the Sabres. They should help the team get a good start.

Peters ran the practices for them last year during the lockout. Just because he wasn't a good player doesn't mean that he doesn't know the game (he spent a lot of time watching it) or doesn't have organizational skills.

I'm pretty sure its CBA related. The skates have to be informal and not run by a member of the Sabres coaching staff.

The Buffalo Sabres have invited LW Peter Trainor to training camp. Trainor put up 46 goals and a 100 points in 68 games with Rimouski of the QMJHL last season.

Also McKee has coached at both the college and professional levels. He coached in Rochester for a year which is more experience than the new Sabres assistant

Pshhht Pittsburgh should have hired Wayne Gretzky the greatest coach of all time instead of Bylsma. They would have won 4 cups by now!

Can't believe camp is only 8 days away, and the first game only 12.

Often times the best coaches are the ones to whom the game didn't come naturally, who couldn't just rely on talent--and often didn't have the talent to even crack the NHL. Those guys have an easier time understanding what the difficulties players are facing because they faced it themselves...stars may think "how could you have trouble with that, it's so easy!", but the guy who it wasn't easy for will never think like that.

I was thinking the same thing. As much as we have complained about a long boring off-season, this really has come quick. Especially since the season went later than usual and last off-season was REALLY long.
