Definitely sign him, let the dumb Sharks fans who know nothing about hockey sit and pout. I think a 3 yr $2.5-2.75M deal will get it done, basically the same money we gave Handzus.

He's a legit fill in in the top 6 and an elite 3rd liner. He takes no less than 3mil 3 years to sign. Probably 4 years to sign in SJ. Be prepared for the sticker shock. He's more valuable than Zeus and frankly Clowe. CLowe never seemed to hit like this guy. If he signs for less it probably means he absolutely loves it here and he's looking for stability. Bet he asks for a no trade too.

Woah, looked up his stats, did anyone know he had 27 goals for the Oilers in 05-06?

It's only been 1 round. Shouldn't we wait to see what he does for the rest of the playoffs?

Also, Torres was the 5th pick of the 2000 draft so he's the 4th highest drafted player currently on the Sharks behind Thornton(1st), Marleau(2nd), and Stuart(3rd). He's gotta have some skill to be a top 5 pick.

He isn't going to continue playing at a top 6 rate next year. Players like him cannot usually keep up playing at a top 6 rate consistently, they've got too much wear and tear on their body. If they played hard every game they'd break down so quickly. Don't freak out over him. He's a great 3rd liner but has not an all star. If he can get some mixture of >15g and >15a for 35 points then it's a good year, and he was about on pace for that this year. He's 31 and he's never scored above .5PPG in his career over a full season, and the only time he did was 05-06 where everybody scored a lot of points.

With that said, he plays like this every playoffs, which is good enough. 3 years at 2.5 million sounds good to me. But he's not a top-6 forward. Don't kid yourselves. I am a huge fan of his though.

90 points one season in Juniors, point per game in playoffs in Juniors. Drafted 5th overall. Played in the NHL young stars game. He is not without skill which makes him ideal as a tweener. If he truly cleans up his game and plays clean the rest of his career he can probably be a legit full time 2nd liner. Really he's a great winger for Couture and Marleau. Probably be good on Joes line too considering he's a digger and shooter.

No, I see no reason to wait. We have the end of the season and round one to judge how he plays. That's plenty. If he would sign now I would sign him. You can tell every game that no forward puts in the effort he does. Maybe Couture and Burns...

THis is really impossible to define. Nils ekman was a top 6 forward for a while...

Let me put it this way: I love Raffi Torres and will be pissed if we don't re-sign him, but I don't think he will be able to properly play at a top-6 rate. But that's fine, he's still a great 3rd liner. Just don't assume he's something he's not. Say Jason Demers plays like a dominant #1 against the Hawks and scores 9 points in 5 games, being on the ice for 0GA en route to the Sharks winning. Does that make him a true #1? No. It just means he played well. I don't think Torres is going to keep this up. I hope he does, but I wouldn't bet on it.

why are we talking about torres as a top six winger? hes a third liner, but a great one.

a viable third line is what this team has been missing for so long.

ive posted his stats before, but basically you can expect he will hit .3-.45 ppg in a full season with us, at least barring injury its not a bad bet. we absolutely need that on our bottom six.

Because he's playing in the top 6?

I don't think he's a permanent answer in the top 6 but he obviously has the talent to be a top 6 f1. Especially on this team...

Pavelski isn't playing in the top 6 technically. Hell, his line is practically a 2nd line. Our top 9 isn't clear cut.

yes, but torres isnt a top six winger. his production wont match one, whether he fills a role as an F1 on the 1/2 line or not.

plenty of other people can be an effective F1 but not everyone can be that motor/scorer on the third line. which is where id want him.

Yes, he does. That's why re-signing him ought to be pursued. The reason why he doesn't fit with Marleau and Couture is not really his fault either. Neither Marleau nor Couture can fill the play-making role to the degree necessary for a top line nor make up for a lack of one so that needs to be addressed.

-Before acquiring Torres, Doug Wilson stated he was unwilling to trade for rentals
-Torres has stated that he would like to stay here
-The players in the locker room like Torres a lot
-The team has plenty of cap space

I honestly don't see why he won't be coming back. I've grown really emotionally attached to him so I'd be sad to see him go.

I also want him back as well. Imagine if we still had Malhotra as well, we'd have some dynamite depth right there. This would of course be in a world where DW resigned him and he never got a puck to the face

I think this current team has great depth at F if they just add one more playmaking winger and don't get rid of Havlat.
