As far as Sherman they said:

“Sherman will continue to be in charge of contract negotiations and be the Avalanche’s contact with the league office and its member teams.”

So my guess is that Sherman answers the phone and then hands it to Sakic?

Well, I'm sceptical about how one man can be the President of two different teams, but I am vaguely optimistic about all of this. Roll on September.

They'll call Sherman and I believe Sakic is the only one that matters when it comes to signing off on a trade. Sakic said he has final say over all hockey related decisions.

Sherman is still around becasuse the Avs need a GM by title, someone who goes to stupid league meetings, handles the day to day non-sense of an office, crunches numbers, goes to more stupid league meetings ect. All stuff that no-one but Sherman would want to do w/o having any hockey say at all. But anything on-ice related will be Joe's call. Sherman will have no say in those decisions.

And yes Dater is the worst. But if he doesn't ask 37 stupid a$$ questions how would he ever have enough material to write the same story 9 times for the D-Post (and yet still not say anything of value).

Over all I think this was a big day in a positive way for our team.

The problem now...is waiting for everything to take place and waiting for next season.

Having JK more in the day-to-day of the organization can only be a good thing. Nobody wants something they oversee to fail, especially egotistical billionaires.

Definitely. He's the guy that gives me the most confidence. I'm guessing that's why he's a good manager. Smart guy who's very upbeat, and his confidence rubs off on the people he works with.

Sakic I'm a little worried about. It's almost as if he has no idea what he's gonna do. He had to ask his friends around the league what the role would entail, and he basically gave a very standard example of building from goaltending out, through the D, and up the middle as his plan.

At least PL has left the building. Maybe a culture change can happen and lots of things like better media relations, more transparency, and outside the organization hires will start to happen.

That didn't exactly work out great for the Islanders. I dunno if I like this, woulda just preferred Billington and Sakic with no Lacroix. Now Lacroix is still an "advisor" and Kroenke who's not a hockey guy will be in contact with Lacroix still.

The problem now is they could hire another coach that will fail. Biggest move coming, and they need to finally hire the right coach.

Brian Burke was kept as an "advisor" after the Leafs fired him. Can't say for sure but I'm guessing PL is done with the Avs. It'll be official next summer when his contract expires.

It's sure going to be awkward for the organization of Sakic fails.

Stale, incompetent management out, unqualified inexperience in.

Same ****, different day.

JK has done a great job with the Nuggets given the cards that franchise was dealt. He isn't a hockey person, but he doesn't have to be to manage a franchise. All he has to do is surround himself with good hockey people and manage them appropriately. I think he has done a decent job on the first step of that with Billington, Pracey, Sakic, and Sherman (at least contract wise).

Agreed, and thats what I meant by waiting for everything to take place and that includes the draft.

I am still unsure who I want as a coach. A lot on these boards really want Roy. I would rather Tippett. I want someone who has coached in the NHL and has decent experience doing so.

Something Duchene, Landeskog and Jones/Mac/Drouin all have the ability to be.

Nope, I was thinking Superstar.

And IMO, Duchene and Landeskog don't have the potential to be as good as Getzlaf, Perry, Kane, Kopitar, Sedins etc.

I think they will be in the tier below. Stars but not superstars. Jones could become a Superstar along the lines of Doughty, Chara(Who is more of a generational talent then superstar), Weber, etc.

But I don't see Duchene every reaching the level of a guy like Getzlaf or the Sedins in there prime.

Very excited about this FO team going forward. Josh K. getting more involved is a great sign to the fan that he is committed to build a successful franchise. He did a great job with the Nuggets and I expect he will do the same with the Avs.

As for Sakic, I doubt he would take this job if he wasn't comfortable with Josh as president. He wouldn't bother.

The one thing I really like is that both of them didn't want to take bigger role with the team until they felt they were ready for it. They obviously wanted to put themselves in a position to succeed. Too many people take positions like that because the opportunity arises but they are not yet ready for it.

I'm happy Sherman is sticking around. I think he deserves to show what this team is about with another coach.

As for coach I would really like either Roy or Tippett. These guys along with Josh and Sakic are winners and really want to win. Good things ahead I think.

I don't think so. It isn't like coaching where you either are the coach or you aren't. Positions can be created in the front office for a guy like Sakic. Then he can quietly retire a few years later to spend more time with his family.
